Pipe Field Engineer

Job Summary
A shipbuilding organization is seeking a Pipe Field Engineer to serve as the technical liaison between engineering and production teams for marine piping systems. In this role, you will support piping construction strategy, routing, installation support, field engineering, commissioning, and as-built documentation for vessel new-build and repair projects.

Responsibilities

  • Support development of piping construction strategies for new-build and vessel modification projects
  • Monitor piping installation progress and identify opportunities to improve production efficiency and schedule performance
  • Provide field engineering support and piping-related technical solutions during construction
  • Maintain and update piping drawings, redlines, and as-built documentation
  • Coordinate with engineering, production supervisors, foremen, and craft personnel regarding piping system installation
  • Support construction, testing, flushing, and commissioning of marine piping systems
  • Assist with routing and layout of piping systems while coordinating with structural, HVAC, and electrical disciplines
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory, classification, and project requirements
  • Participate in inspections, pressure testing, quality documentation, and system turnover activities
  • Identify field conflicts and implement solutions to minimize rework and schedule impacts
  • Support material selection, take-offs, procurement, and fabrication planning

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
  • Minimum 7 years of shipyard experience involving vessel construction, modification, or repair projects with significant piping system responsibility
  • Minimum 5 years supporting piping construction, fabrication, installation, or craft supervision
  • Strong knowledge of marine piping systems, materials, fabrication methods, testing, and installation practices
  • Experience interpreting marine drawings and construction documents
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD; marine design software experience preferred
  • Familiarity with classification society and regulatory requirements
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced shipyard environment
