Job Summary:
The Pre-Commissioning Area Engineer is responsible for coordinating, work connected with the testing and/or commissioning of electrical distribution and transmission substations for utility clients. Individual will provide direct supervision over Electric Power Systems startup personnel along with others suppliers such as contractor electricians and engineering staff.
Responsibilities
  • Perform substation field engineering, including work plan preparation and project testing functions of Area Engineers in the commissioning of new or modified transmission facilities.
  • Review, revise, and/or develop isolation and restoration work plans, perform preparation of integrated functional test plans, and performance of functional tests (contractor's lead AE will review any work plans that require second review.)
  • Direct troubleshooting efforts, including plan development and execution to resolve functional test deficiencies.
  • Perform the mark-up of field change drawings, discrepancy lists and project closure packages within 30 days of project in-service date.
  • Provides on-site support to Design Engineering, Substation Construction and to Transmission Service Center Managers engaged in the construction, operation, and maintenance of Customer's transmission system as relates to design philosophy and providing field information/valid requirements.
  • Provide technical guidance on unusual or complex problems ensuring customer design standards are maintained.

Qualifications
  • BS or 2 year degree in electrical engineering is a plus, along with experience in communicating with microprocessor type relays.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in electrical equipment testing and inspection, including high voltage applications
  • Knowledge of testing, commissioning and maintenance of power equipment.
  • Excellent management and supervisory skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Superior Safety record
  • Broad experience with wide variety of electrical apparatus used in power industry, including transformers, breakers and switchgear.
  • Experience in working in utility transmission substation is required.
  • Able to pass a pre-employment drug screen due to this being a safety sensitive position.
