Location: Decatur, AL | Employment Type: Temp-to-Hire | Pay: $25.00–$26.00/hr

A day in your boots

You open the traveler, study the drawing, and map out your sequence. Fixturing is set, amperage and voltage dialed in, and your first arc lights. You’ll run clean GTAW and GMAW beads on steel alloys, aluminum, and galvanized material—flat, horizontal, and vertical—judging puddle, sound, and color for optimal fusion. Between passes you’ll chip spatter, dress welds with grinders and DA sanders, and verify dimensions with tape and basic gauges. Parts are clamped in jigs, assemblies move by forklift, and quality checkpoints and computer updates ensure every component meets customer specs for a leading automotive manufacturer near Decatur.

What you’ll handle
  • Read/interpret prints and routers; apply basic math to layout and fit-up
  • Set up fixtures; select wire/filler and weld parameters (amps/volts)
  • Manually guide torch/gun to achieve required bead profile and penetration
  • Weld in flat, horizontal, and vertical positions on pipe and plate
  • Inspect welds visually and dimensionally; confirm bead size and specs
  • Chip slag/spatter; smooth and finish using grinders and DA sanders
  • Position, clamp, and assemble components in jigs/fixtures
  • Update computer records and paperwork per production requirements
  • Perform basic PM on welding equipment
  • Move work in/out of the cell by forklift
  • Keep the area safe, orderly, and compliant with all quality policies
  • Communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing
What you bring
  • 2+ years of hands-on welding experience across processes; proven pipe welding
  • Aluminum welding capability
  • High School Diploma/GED or completion of a certified technical program
  • 2+ years in a machine shop environment
  • Ability to pass an internal weld test
  • Accurate tape-measure use (assessment provided)
  • Lift up to 50 lbs; willing to work occasional overtime
  • Steel-toed boots; dependable attendance; follow work instructions

Schedule & pay
  • First and Second Shift, Monday–Friday; typical 2nd shift hours: 1:30 PM–10:00 PM
