Job summary
PALA is hiring Vessel Fitters for shop/fabrication work in Hammond, La. Join an employee-owned team that values craftsmanship.
Key Responsibilities
    • Read and interpret fabrication drawings, weld maps, and specifications
    • Perform layout and fit-up of shells, heads, nozzles, and structural components
    • Align and assemble pressure vessel components to meet dimensional tolerances
    • Verify plumbness, level, and orientation using precision measuring tools
    • Prepare joints for welding, including bevel alignment and root gap control
    • Assist welders during fit-up and ensure weld readiness
    • Perform tack welding (if qualified) in accordance with WPS requirements
    • Conduct visual inspections of fit-up prior to welding
    • Maintain compliance with ASME Section VIII, company QC procedures, and safety standards
    • Work closely with quality control, welding, and engineering teams

Qualifications
    • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
    • 3-5+ years of experience in pressure vessel or heavy fabrication
    • Strong understanding of ASME Section VIII Div. 1 requirements
    • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and fabrication drawings
    • Proficient with measuring tools (tape measure, levels, water level, squares, etc.)
    • Experience with fit-up of rolled shells, heads, and nozzle installations
    • Tack welding experience preferred (SMAW/FCAW)
    • knowledge of material handling and rigging practices

Pay & Schedule
  • $26.00-$40.00/hr. (based on skills)
  • 10-hour shifts: 6:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. (paid through a 30-minute lunch)
