Responsibilities
  • Perform maintenance, repair, and special project installations at nine hydroelectric plants located within the State of Utah that are mechanical/structural in nature.
  • Assist with hydroelectric plants in the State of Idaho as needed.
  • Maintenance and repair duties include but are not limited to cooling coil systems, radial gates and trunnions, thrust and journal bearings, pumps, part machining, large diameter valves, bridge cranes and hoists, runners, shafts, high pressure riveted and welded penstocks with expansion joints, gearboxes, slide gates, governor systems, and pressure vessels.
  • Perform vibration/alignment analysis and realignment when necessary.
  • Safe and efficient heavy equipment operation.
  • Safe performance of load rigging and lifting.
  • Analyze plant drawings to perform troubleshooting or project development.
  • Perform troubleshooting and/or identifying operational issues that require unexpected urgent repair.
  • Routinely evaluate condition of existing units and appurtenances to provide condition assessment to maintenance foreman.
  • Assist maintenance foreman with development of maintenance outage plans that include scope, cost, and schedule.
  • Assist maintenance foreman with development of scope for emergent projects that include cost estimates, alternatives analysis, schedule, and justification.

Requirements
The Hydro Journeyman Mechanic position is under the direction of the maintenance foreman and must be:
  • ncMust have at least 3 years of Journeyman experience in the following areas:
    • Machine Shop
    • Pipe Fitting
    • Welding
    • Hydraulics
    • Pump Repair
    • Industrial Mechanics
  • A certified welder with pressure vessel certification
  • 5 years of power plant experience
  • Has a high school diploma or GED
  • Other acedemic requirements:
    • Welding and related subjects 18 semester hrs/ 27 quarter hrs.
      • Machine shop and related subjects 18 semester hrs/ 27 quarter hrs.
    • Industrial mechanics 6 semester hrs/ 9 quarter hrs.
    • Trade math or equivalent 6 semester hrs/ 9 quarter. hrs.
  • Must have a current CDL or ability to obtain one within 6 months of start date.
