Job description

As a pipefitter journeyman, you will work within the shop to prefabricate mechanical piping systems that are installed on commercial construction projects.

Compensation aspects of the role are dependent upon knowledge, skills and experience.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Fabricate piping systems for mechanical installations for use on commercial construction projects
  • Read blueprints and specifications to determine the scope of work includinglocations, quantities, and material specs.
  • Selects type and size of pipe, and related materials and equipment according to specifications
  • Cuts, threads, bends, and assembles the pipes.
  • Prepare, cut, fabricate, layout, fit, position, and assemble piping components together in various positions.
  • Bolt, clamp, and tack-welds parts to secure in position for welding.
  • Install hangers, supports, valves and components according to piping system plans and specifications.
  • Perform leak tests to ensure the quality of the pipe and the piping systems.
  • Proper identification and use of tools required for tasks. (grinders, drills, beveling machine, etc.)
  • Operate forklifts & overhead cranes.
  • Hoist loads using slings, chains, shackles, hooks, cables, and other rigging equipment.
  • Maintain safe and clean work environment.
  • Able to work from ladders and man lifts at various heights.
  • Perform other related duties or special projects, as assigned.

Education, Training, Licenses and/or Certifications

  • 5 years' experience with pipe fitting processes using piping such as carbon steel, stainless steel and copper preferred
  • Welding certification preferred
  • Must be able to read and understand weld symbols, weld procedures, mechanical and structural drawings.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals in order to determine work procedures such as ISO's and blueprints
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and manufacturers manuals and instructions.
  • OSHA 10 hour preferred
  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Ability to work from ladders and man lifts from various heights and operate the equipment as needed

Additional Requirements

  • Must complete company specific welding, soldering and/or brazing test for employment.
  • Requires basic mechanical aptitude, mathematical and English language skills.
  • Maintain a positive, cooperative and coachable attitude
  • Initiative; self-motivated (driven), self-starter.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to walk, stand, squat, bend, stoop, crouch, kneel, climb, reach, grasp and comfortably lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Regular and predictable attendance.
  • Must be able to fulfill the essential job functions in a consistent state of alertness and a safe manner.
  • Work performed primarily inside but must go outside at times for product and various tasks.
  • Exposure to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions.
  • The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud.
  • Ability to pass a full background screening and drug screening
  • Ability to pass MVR check (if applicable) or must have reliable transportation
  • Ability to pass a physical ability test
  • Ability to travel, as needed, for projects
