The General Mechanic supports plant operations by maintaining and repairing production equipment, forklifts, and facility systems in a fastpaced PVC pipe manufacturing environment. This role works closely with the Maintenance and Production departments to troubleshoot mechanical issues, perform preventive maintenance, support equipment changeovers and projects, and complete welding and fabrication tasks. The mechanic ensures all machinery and materialhandling equipment operate safely, efficiently, and reliably to keep production lines running smoothly.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Perform routine forklift maintenance, including oil changes, filter replacements, coolant checks, and lubrication.
• Inspect and replace forklift tires (pneumatic and cushion).
• Conduct brake inspections and perform mechanical brake repairs.
• Inspect and service hydraulic systems, including hoses, cylinders, and mast components.
• Check and maintain proper fluid levels (hydraulic, transmission, brake, engine).
• Inspect forks, chains, mast rollers, and carriage assemblies for wear and safety compliance.
• Troubleshoot mechanical issues involving engines, transmissions, and drive systems.
• Replace belts, hoses, spark plugs, and other wear components.
• Conduct safety inspections to ensure forklifts meet OSHA and company standards.
• Maintain accurate service logs and maintenance records for all forklifts.
• Respond promptly to operatorreported issues and perform timely repairs.
• Coordinate maintenance schedules with supervisors to minimize downtime.
• Keep forklift maintenance tools, parts, and work areas organized.
• Assist with ordering parts and maintaining inventory when authorized.
• Maintain work area to THM standards.
• Install, set up, and maintain mechanical equipment throughout the facility.
• Diagnose mechanical issues and apply proper repair and troubleshooting procedures.
• Safely operate welding, cutting, power tools, and hand tools.
• Determine when parts require replacement and perform necessary repairs.
• Use rigging equipment safely when required.
• Work cooperatively with the Maintenance department and support operational needs.
• Perform mechanical duties alongside other team members.
• Operate mobile hoisting equipment.
• Follow safe working practices and report hazardous conditions immediately.
• Complete required documentation, logs, and maintenance records accurately.
• Operate forklifts as necessary and maintain forklift certification.
• Perform routine inspections to identify and diagnose equipment issues.
• Repair mechanical, hydraulic, and basic electrical components as needed.
• Communicate effectively with operators and supervisors regarding equipment issues and repair status.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as fractions, percentages, decimals, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
