As a pipelayer, your job is to install and repair pipe systems. To accomplish this, you may decide on a layout for the pipes, determine which type of pipe is the best choice, and use public information to account for factors like the underground waterline or the presence of existing pipes. For example, many homes are close to a storm sewer or sanitary sewer, and there could be a problem if your installation punctures those pipes. All pipe laying involves a significant amount of digging, and most pipelayers use heavy machinery for the majority of this. Other aspects of the job may include landscaping, building walls, or performing additional construction work as needed to lay the pipes. Most pipelayers are also responsible for obtaining permits and filing paperwork with the local government.
