Job Description:
The Insulator Foreman supports the efficient operation and safety of industrial systems by overseeing the installation, maintenance, and repair of insulation on pipes, tanks, and equipment. This role focuses on preventing heat loss, reducing energy consumption, and protecting personnel from hazardous temperatures. The position involves evaluating potential projects, preparing competitive proposals and bids, coordinating with other trades, and ensuring insulation work is completed to applicable standards, specifications, and safety requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Evaluate potential projects, develop competitive proposals, and submit bids to secure business
- Measure, cut, and fit insulation materials on pipes, vessels, and machinery in accordance with industry standards and specifications
- Inspect existing insulation systems for wear and tear; perform repairs or replacements to maintain insulation performance
- Select appropriate insulation materials based on temperature, environment, and application requirements (including fiberglass, foam, and mineral wool)
- Follow all safety protocols and regulations; maintain a safe work environment and consistently use required PPE
- Maintain accurate records of work completed, materials used, and any safety incidents
- Coordinate and communicate with engineers, construction teams, and other trades to complete work on schedule and to specification
Skills and Qualifications:
- Minimum 3 years of management/supervisory experience, with at least 3 years of oilfield industry-specific experience
- High school diploma or equivalent; relevant technical certification or vocational training is a plus
- Proven mechanical insulation experience, preferably in the oil and gas industry
- Knowledge of insulation materials, techniques, and safety regulations
- Knowledge of tools, equipment, and mechanical needs for the tin cutting process; ability to read blueprint drawings and cut lists
- Proficiency with tools such as tape measure and angle finder
- Ability to troubleshoot equipment to ensure proper function and operation
- Basic math skills for common calculations
- Professional, motivated, and able to work independently with minimal supervision
- Working knowledge of computers and software (Microsoft Office, email, timekeeping programs, invoicing, etc.)
- Ability to effectively communicate (typing, speaking, reading, writing, hearing) with employees, managers, and relevant third parties
- Ability to quote/bid insulation projects
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work in challenging environments, including extreme temperatures and heights; strong communication and teamwork abilities
- Preferred: Degree from an accredited technical school or university
- Preferred: At least 3 years oilfield insulation and tin fabrication experience
- Preferred: At least 3 years oilfield carpentry experience
- Preferred: At least 3 years' experience erecting engineered scaffolding
- Preferred: At least 3 years' experience insulating and fabricating tin for tanks and vessels
- Physical ability to sit, stand, walk, reach, climb/balance, and stoop/kneel/crouch for extended periods unassisted
- Ability to wear a respirator when required
- Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination sufficient to operate industrial machinery
- Ability to repeatedly lift and/or move up to 65 pounds unassisted
- Adequate visual acuity, hearing, speaking, reading, and writing to perform tasks safely
- Ability to work outdoors in loud environments and in inclement/extreme weather; exposure to electricity, mechanical parts, vehicles/equipment, and hazardous materials
- Ability to work long hours and frequent weekends
Location: Williston, ND
Schedule: 5/2 (some weekends required)
Pay: $24-35/hr (depending on experience)
