Job Description:

This is a highly skilled advanced Journeyman position assigned to the Night Crew which deals primarily with emergency plumbing repair requirements within all buildings located on the LSU Baton Rouge Campus. The incumbent must not only be proficient in all aspects of plumbing repairs, but must also have the ability to locate, diagnose, and perform the required repairs with above average speed in order to minimize the interruption to vital plumbing, water, gas, and steam services, and to prevent or minimize any damage that might possibly occur to the buildings and/or their content from failure or malfunctions of plumbing systems.

Job Duties:

50%- Performs emergency troubleshooting within all campus buildings on all types of piping systems in service such as steam, gas, air, water, fire mains, sewage, and drainage systems utilizing such diagnostic tools as simple and complex building blueprints, and performs repairs on these systems which may be constructed of materials such as copper, cast iron, adhesives, epoxies, soldering, brazing, etc.

30%- Performs repaired on general heating, ventilating, air conditioning, refrigeration equipment in buildings. Performs preventive maintenance duties on motors; adding coolant, adjusting controls, changing filters, etc.

10%- Performs multiple trade skills such as insulations (removal and repair), pump repair, painting, etc. as needed to complete job assignments.

5%- Performs all other tasks associated with the duties of the plumber classification. Assists other crafts, as needed. Occasionally, weekend and holiday work may be required.

5%- Performs general maintenance mechanic duties (including but not limited to: filter replacement, belt tensioning, basic plumbing, light replacement, etc.) on all systems on campus. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

One year of the required experience for the following minimum qualifications must have been on-the-job experience: Three years of experience or training in pipefitting, steam fitting, or plumbing.

  • This position requires a valid driver's license, will require an MVR, and is subject to drug screens per PM-33/PS-67/FASOP HR-04.

  • This position is classified as a safety and security-sensitive position. These positions are subject to drug screens per PS-67/FASOP HR-04.

  • This position is considered emergency essential and may be required to report to campus in times of emergency and/or closure per PS-18.

  • This position will require a physical evaluation based on the physical demands required.
