Pilot Per information

What is a pilot per?

A Pilot Per, often referred to as a pilot, is a trained professional responsible for operating and navigating aircraft. Pilots ensure the safe transport of passengers or cargo by following strict procedures, communicating with air traffic control, and handling in-flight emergencies. They may work for commercial airlines, cargo carriers, or private companies, and must hold the appropriate certifications and licenses. Becoming a pilot typically requires extensive training, flight hours, and passing rigorous examinations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a pilot per, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Pilot, you need strong aeronautical knowledge, quick decision-making abilities, and must hold a valid commercial pilot’s license with the required flight hours. Familiarity with advanced aircraft systems, flight management computers, and navigation tools is essential, and certifications such as an Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL) are typically required. Exceptional situational awareness, communication, and teamwork skills help pilots manage in-flight challenges and collaborate with crew and air traffic control. These competencies are crucial to ensure passenger safety, regulatory compliance, and efficient flight operations.

What are some common challenges pilots face during multi-crew operations, and how are they typically addressed?

In multi-crew cockpit environments, pilots often encounter challenges related to communication, task delegation, and decision-making under pressure. Effective Crew Resource Management (CRM) is essential to ensure all team members are on the same page, especially during high-stress or abnormal situations. Airlines and aviation organizations invest heavily in CRM training, fostering open communication, mutual respect, and clear procedures to address misunderstandings or conflicting opinions. Regular simulator sessions and debriefings also help pilots refine their teamwork skills and adapt to evolving best practices.

Job description

King Air 200GT and Cessna T210 Pilot
Department: Pilot
Employment Type: Full Time
Location: Bakersfield
Description
Fly it, and run it. Jaco Oil Company is looking for an experienced corporate pilot to operate and lead our small flight department - the autonomy of single-pilot command without the grind of an airline schedule. We fly roughly 150 hours a year, single-pilot, with real ownership over how the department runs.
Jaco Oil is an established management organization overseeing fuel distribution and retail food operations across several entities - a stable, well-run company that takes safety, efficiency, and professionalism seriously in everything we do.
The Aircraft: King Air 200GT and Cessna T210, flown single-pilot under Part 91.
What You'll Do
  • Operate the King Air 200GT and Cessna T210 safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with the FARs and company policy
  • Oversee day-to-day flight department management: aircraft readiness, maintenance coordination, scheduling, and tracking
  • Coordinate directly with company leadership on travel plans and scheduling
  • Arrange ground transportation, fuel stops, and FBO/airport services for trips
  • Monitor weather and operational conditions to support safe go/no-go decisions
  • Conduct pre-flight inspections and routine checks; identify and flag mechanical issues
  • Maintain strong relationships with maintenance facilities, FBOs, and regulatory contacts
  • Handle regulatory compliance and general flight department administration

What You Bring
  • FAA Commercial Pilot Certificate with Multi-Engine, Instrument rating, and high-altitude endorsement - ATP highly preferred
  • Minimum hours: 3,000 TT • 1,500 Multi-Engine • 1,000 Turboprop • 250 in King Air 200s
  • Proven single-pilot PIC experience in cross-country operations
  • Complete knowledge of FAA regulations and aviation safety practices
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail - able to manage documentation, maintenance coordination, and logistics
  • Clear, professional communication with leadership and aviation service providers

Benefits & Perks
Jaco Oil offers a comprehensive benefits package to full-time employees working 30+ hours per week:
  • Company-paid Life and AD&D insurance - fully covered at no cost to you
  • Company-paid Dental (HMO) and Vision - new this year, Jaco Oil now covers the premium for enrolled employees
  • Medical coverage with shared premium costs
  • Flexible Spending Account (FSA) and Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
  • Voluntary options at competitive group rates via payroll deduction: optional life, plus supplemental Accident, Critical Illness, and Hospital Indemnity coverage
  • Dependent coverage for your spouse or domestic partner and children up to age 26

Coverage begins the first of the month following 30 days of employment.
If you're a sharp, safety-minded pilot who wants command of the airplane and the department, we'd like to hear from you. Apply today.
