Their duties include pre-flight planning, conducting safety checks, navigating flights, communicating with air traffic control, and ensuring the safety of passengers and cargo. They must also keep up-to-date with aviation regulations and maintain their certifications.

What does a Pilatus pilot do?

A Pilatus pilot operates Pilatus airplanes that transport passengers and cargo. As a Pilatus pilot, you oversee charter flying and other flights, and your responsibilities include aircraft operation, cleanliness of the plane, paperwork completion, passenger safety assurance, and adherence to company and safety guidelines. You can work for private charter organizations, medical facilities, the United States military, or other independent organizations. Your duties span shipping and cargo transport flights, recreational tours, and medical flights transporting patients to and from medical facilities. You perform pre- and post-trip inspections, adhere to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) standards and guidelines, and communicate over aircraft radio systems.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Pilatus pilot, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Pilatus Pilot, you need a valid commercial or airline transport pilot license, strong flight training, and experience with single-engine turboprop aircraft. Excellent situational awareness, decision-making, and strong communication skills are essential soft skills for this role. These competencies are critical for ensuring flight safety, regulatory compliance, and efficient operation in diverse and sometimes challenging flying conditions.
