Job description
We are looking for a talented Modeling & Simulation Engineer to join our team specializing in Modeling and Simulation for our Cummins Inc. facility in Seattle, WA.
In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:
- Translate stakeholder needs into working solutions by collaborating with product and engineering design teams to define requirements and deliver verified model features and impactful analyses.
- Validate models of physical system by analyzing experimental, operational, and simulation data
- Influence software architecture and design decisions by applying systems knowledge to improve software quality, performance, and cross platform integration across product lines.
- Strengthen development efficiency and consistency by applying and continuously improving software development processes, including coding, compilation, and testing practices.
- Resolve simulation issues effectively by investigating anomalies, understanding causal mechanisms, owning problem resolution, and clearly documenting outcomes to improve product reliability.
- Independently execute moderately complex work by owning components or subsystems, navigating increasing technical ambiguity, and delivering results aligned with product and program goals.
- Contribute to team success and capability growth by collaborating cross functionally, supporting technicians or student employees as needed, and continuously building proficiency in critical technical competencies.
Additional Information:
- Design, develop, and maintain complex, integrated simulation models to represent and analyze physical system behavior.
- Analyze experimental, operational, and simulation data to inform model development, calibration, and validation efforts.
- Develop subsystem level simulation algorithms grounded in first principles engineering and mathematical methodologies.
- Validate and test simulation outputs against empirical data and defined system requirements to ensure accuracy and reliability.
- Proficiency or working experience with Python and/or MATLAB/Simulink for model development, analysis, and simulation is a plus.
- Bachelor's degree, or equivalent practical experience, in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Analytics, or Data Science is preferred.
Please note that the salary range provided is a good faith estimate on the applicable range. The final salary offer will be determined after considering relevant factors, including a candidate's qualifications and experience, where appropriate.
To be successful in this role, you will need the following:
- Apply strong systems thinking and requirements discipline to translate stakeholder needs into clear, traceable system and model requirements, enabling robust architectures and informed product design decisions across the lifecycle.
- Prevent failures and ensure product quality by using modeling, simulation, statistical methods, and verification and validation practices to identify risks early, validate performance, and improve overall product reliability.
- Deliver high quality software and technical solutions by following sound software engineering principles, solving product problems with data driven rigor, and documenting technical outcomes to support effective knowledge transfer.
- Drive results through collaboration and continuous growth by working effectively across functions and cultures, communicating clearly with diverse audiences, making timely decisions, and actively pursuing self development to expand technical depth and impact.
Education, Licenses, Certifications:
College, university, or equivalent Bachelor's degree in Engineering or appropriate STEM field is required.
Post-graduate (Master's) degree relevant to this discipline area may be required for select roles.
This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.
Experience:
Entry level/Early career professional. Preferred candidates would have relevant experience working in either a temporary student employment environment (intern, co-op, or other extracurricular team activities) or as an early career professional in a relevant technical discipline area. Knowledge of MS Office tools is also preferred.
