These teams bring together diverse expertise, allowing physicists to contribute their deep understanding of physical principles to solve practical challenges such as improving solar cell efficiency or advancing battery technology. Effective communication and teamwork are essential, as physicists must frequently present complex concepts in ways that are accessible to colleagues from other backgrounds. This collaborative environment not only fosters innovation but also provides opportunities for professional growth and learning from other disciplines.

What are 5 potential jobs for physics?

Physics graduates can pursue careers such as research scientist, where they conduct experiments and analyze data; aerospace engineer, designing aircraft and spacecraft; data analyst, interpreting complex datasets; medical physicist, applying physics principles in healthcare; and renewable energy specialist, developing sustainable energy solutions. These roles often require strong analytical skills, proficiency with scientific tools, and relevant certifications or advanced degrees.

What is the highest paid physics job?

The highest paid physics jobs typically include roles such as physics research directors, senior physicists in industry, or specialized roles in aerospace, defense, and energy sectors, often requiring advanced degrees and extensive experience. These positions can offer salaries exceeding $150,000 annually, especially in private industry or leadership positions. Skills in data analysis, programming, and project management are also highly valued in these roles.

What do physicists in the energy sector do?

Physicists in the energy sector apply principles of physics to develop, improve, and implement technologies related to energy production, storage, and efficiency. Their work often involves researching renewable energy sources like solar, wind, or nuclear power, as well as optimizing existing energy systems. They may also be involved in addressing challenges such as energy conversion, transmission, and minimizing environmental impact. By leveraging their deep understanding of physical laws, physicists help create sustainable solutions to meet global energy demands.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Physics professional in the energy sector, and why are they important?

To excel as a Physics professional in the energy sector, you need a strong background in physics, mathematics, and energy systems, often supported by a relevant degree such as a BSc or MSc in Physics or Engineering. Familiarity with simulation software (like MATLAB or COMSOL), data analysis tools, and knowledge of renewable energy technologies or certifications are typically required. Analytical thinking, problem-solving, and effective communication are vital soft skills for interpreting data and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams. These skills are crucial for driving innovation and ensuring efficient, sustainable energy solutions in a rapidly evolving industry.

What careers are there in energy?

Careers in energy include roles such as energy analyst, renewable energy engineer, nuclear physicist, and energy systems researcher. These positions often require knowledge of physics, engineering, and environmental science, and may involve working with power plants, renewable energy projects, or energy policy development.

What does a high energy physicist do?

A high energy physicist researches fundamental particles and forces by conducting experiments, often using large particle accelerators like the Large Hadron Collider. They analyze data, develop theories, and publish findings to advance understanding of the universe's basic components.

Job description

Company Description

SOCOTEC is a provider of specialty consulting services within the architecture, engineering and construction industries, focusing on high-performance buildings and specialty structures. The firm is expanding based on our reputation for technical expertise and excellent client service.

SOCOTEC is proud to announce that it has been officially certified as a Great Place to Work by the renowned global authority on workplace culture, Great Place to Work.

Job Description

As part of our growth, we are currently looking for a motivated Energy Project Manager with 3-5 years of experience to join our Energy Modeling group within our Energy & Sustainability Services Division. The Energy PM will be involved in high-profile sustainability projects - locally, nationally, and internationally - with the opportunity to work with major real estate developers, award-winning design firms, and top tier construction companies. The Energy PM will also be a technically proficient team player able to provide detailed review of project work and will be integrated into a team of talented SOCOTEC professionals.ย

SOCOTEC has completed over 500 LEED projects worldwide, at the forefront of energy and materials innovation, and has been actively involved in the U.S. Green Building Council since its inception.ย  On energy, SOCOTEC personnel worked on many firsts - the first net-zero US building, the first US environmental high rise residences, the first US environmental office tower, and continued with many others, including currently some of the most efficient all-electric/low carbon buildings. Our project types are broad, including offices, multi-family residential (mid & high-rise), assembly, natatoriums, and art galleries. Project sizes typically range from 100k to 2 million square feet but also include smaller buildings (5-50k sf), especially if they are highly energy efficient.

Other general responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • As the first step in energy modeling, examine both field conditions and design documents, representing relevant details appropriately in the energy model;
  • Perform advanced energy modeling analysis for high rise commercial and residential buildings primarily using the DOE 2.2 or Energy Plus in accordance with ASHRAE Standards;
  • Model building HVAC systems including chilled water, hot water, DX, rooftop units,ย as well as constant air and variable air volume systems;
  • Assemble documentation on modeling methods, assumptions and results;
  • Execute energy auditing, benchmarking, data gathering, as well as measurement & verification;
  • Perform energy savings and lifecycle cost analyses of energy saving measures related to building envelope, lighting, HVAC, plug loads, and building energy management systems;
  • ย Perform excel based calculations utilizing engineering principles;
  • Develop and write reports that detail building components as well as describe energy efficiency measures to improve design and control for new and existing facilities;
  • Perform quality checks and quality assurance for tasks performed by team members; and
  • Provide feedback to project teams on cost effective ways of improving building energy performance and sustainability.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by your supervisor or manager.
Qualifications

The candidate we are seeking will have the following qualifications, skill sets, and experience:

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Mechanical, Aerospace or Civil Engineering, Physics or Architecture;
  • Professional Engineer (PE) or Registered Architect (RA) accreditation is highly desirable either upon joining or planned in the near future.
  • Minimum of three years experience, in a consulting environment, in energy analysis for US based projects.ย  (University course experience does not meet the requirement)
  • Thorough knowledge and experience with the New York State and NY City Energy Code
