How to Get a Physically Active Job?

The primary qualifications for getting a physically active job depend on the position. Personal trainers usually need a license to work with clients, while construction workers often attend a trade school or an apprenticeship program and military personnel go through boot camp. Health and wellness jobs outside of fitness may require going to medical school or getting some other type of training. This is a particularly broad category of jobs, so you may have a hard time finding positions that match your education and experience. Consider narrowing your search to focus on a specific industry or job title. Fulfilling the responsibilities and duties of a physically active job requires physical strength and stamina, the ability to maintain an active lifestyle, and excellent communication skills.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Fitness Trainer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Fitness Trainer, you need a solid understanding of exercise science, anatomy, and nutrition, usually demonstrated through a fitness-related degree or professional certification. Familiarity with gym equipment, fitness assessment tools, and popular training apps is typically required. Strong interpersonal skills, motivation, and the ability to communicate effectively help trainers inspire and safely guide clients. These skills ensure clients achieve their fitness goals while maintaining safety and building long-term healthy habits.

What challenges might I face in a physically active job, and how can I prepare for them?

Physically active roles often require sustained energy, stamina, and attention to proper body mechanics to prevent fatigue and injuries. You may face challenges such as repetitive strain, long hours on your feet, or lifting heavy objects. Preparing for these challenges involves maintaining good physical fitness, learning ergonomic techniques, and staying hydrated. Many employers also provide safety training and encourage regular breaks to support your well-being. Connecting with teammates and following workplace safety guidelines can help you thrive in a physically demanding environment.

What does it mean to have a physically active job?

A physically active job is one that requires regular movement, physical effort, or manual labor throughout the workday. These jobs often involve activities such as standing, walking, lifting, carrying, bending, or operating machinery. Examples include roles in construction, healthcare, fitness training, landscaping, and warehouse work. Being physically active at work can contribute to overall health and fitness but may also require attention to injury prevention and ergonomic practices.

Job description

Lawn Health & Pest Technician โ€“ $20/hr + Benefits

Location: Plano, TX (75074) - Local Routes in Garland, Mesquite, Forney, Plano, Richardson, & East Dallas

Schedule: Mondayโ€“Friday (Occasional Saturdays)

Pay: $20-$22 per hour based on experience + Full Benefits + Weekly Paychecks

Village Green Lawn & Pest has served North Texas homeowners since 1980. We're a family-owned company based in Plano โ€” and we're growing. This is a full-time field technician role servicing residential lawn care, pest control, and mosquito treatment routes across Garland, Mesquite, Forney, Plano, Richardson, and East Dallas. This is year-round outdoor work in North Texas โ€” hot summers, cold winter mornings, and physically active days. We're direct about that upfront because the right candidate will see it as a feature, not a drawback. We welcome both entry-level applicants (we'll train the right person) and experienced technicians from lawn care, pest control, landscaping, or similar outdoor field roles. What we offer: $20-$22/hr, weekly paychecks, health insurance, paid holidays and vacation, 401(k) with company match, company truck, uniforms, and equipment โ€” plus structured onboarding and a clear path to grow with a company that's been here for 46 years. Pay rate is determined by experience. A resume is required to be considered.

First โ€” The Reality of the Role

This is 100% outdoor work, year-round in North Texas.

That means:

  • Hot summers
  • Cold winter mornings
  • Physically active days

If your background is strictly office-based, this role likely isnโ€™t the right fit. We believe in being direct so we donโ€™t waste your time or ours.

Two Ways to Qualify

Entry Level โ€” No Industry Experience Required - Pay rate is $20 per hour

Weโ€™re happy to train the right person.

You bring:

  • Strong work ethic and reliability
  • Willingness to learn and accept coaching
  • Comfort working outdoors year-round

Training includes structured onboarding, ride-alongs, and licensing support.

Experienced Technicians - Lawn / Pest / Mosquito / Outdoor Field Roles - Pay rate is $22 per hour

Candidates with relevant field experience will ramp up faster.

Helpful experience includes:

  • Lawn care
  • Pest control
  • Mosquito control
  • Landscaping
  • Outdoor service routes
  • Other physically active field roles

What You'll Do

  • Service residential properties on a daily route
  • Apply lawn care, mosquito, and pest control treatments
  • Inspect properties and recommend solutions
  • Communicate professionally with homeowners
  • Maintain accurate service records
  • Keep your truck and equipment clean and organized

Requirements

  • Valid driverโ€™s license with a clean driving record (MVR required)
  • Age 25+ (insurance requirement)
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical work
  • Reliable, professional, and self-motivated
  • Strong communication skills (English required; Spanish is a plus)
  • Live within driving distance of Plano, Richardson, Garland, Frisco, or McKinney

Important Application Requirement - A resume is required.
Applications submitted without a resume are considered incomplete. We will follow up once to request it. If we do not receive a response within approximately 24 hours, we will move forward with other candidates.
If your resume does not show outdoor work experience, please include a brief note explaining:

  • Why youโ€™re interested in an outdoor career
  • Why you believe you will succeed in a physically demanding role
