What is physical therapy technology?

Physical Therapy Technology refers to the use of specialized equipment and digital tools to assist physical therapists in evaluating, treating, and monitoring patients. It includes devices like therapeutic ultrasound machines, electrical stimulation units, and software for tracking patient progress. Physical therapy technicians, or aides, often operate this technology under the supervision of licensed physical therapists. The use of these technologies helps improve patient outcomes, increase efficiency, and enhance the overall rehabilitation process.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a physical therapy technician?

To thrive as a Physical Therapy Technician, you need a foundational knowledge of anatomy and physiology, physical therapy procedures, and typically a certificate or associate degree in physical therapy technology. Familiarity with rehabilitation equipment, electronic medical records (EMRs), and basic therapeutic modalities is essential. These skills ensure safe, effective support for physical therapists and help optimize patient recovery and satisfaction.
