Physical Security Manager information

What is physical security management?

Physical security management protects the personnel and physical assets of a company, organization, or government. Physical assets include the organization’s buildings, equipment, and data systems and networks. Physical security management is a vital aspect of an organization’s operations and protects against serious threats of harm and loss, such as vandalism, theft, and terror attacks. Physical security management team members develop and enforce wide-scale protections and contingencies to prevent data breaches and loss of property. Standard security measures include fenced walls, surveillance cameras, and controlled access to restricted areas.

How does a physical security manager typically collaborate with other departments within an organization?

Physical Security Managers regularly work closely with departments such as Facilities, IT, Human Resources, and Operations to ensure comprehensive protection of people, assets, and information. They often coordinate security protocols for new hires or terminations with HR, collaborate with IT on access control and surveillance technologies, and partner with Facilities to assess building vulnerabilities or plan security upgrades. Effective communication and cross-departmental teamwork are essential to address potential risks and implement security initiatives seamlessly.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a physical security manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Physical Security Manager, you need expertise in risk assessment, security operations, and compliance, typically supported by a degree in criminal justice or security management and relevant experience. Familiarity with security technologies such as CCTV, access control systems, and incident management software, along with certifications like CPP (Certified Protection Professional), is highly valued. Strong leadership, problem-solving, and effective communication skills help in managing teams and coordinating with stakeholders. These qualifications ensure the protection of assets, personnel, and facilities while maintaining regulatory compliance and organizational resilience.

What is the difference between Physical Security Manager vs Security Supervisor?

At Bath & Body Works, we believe everybody deserves to feel good. When you join us, you're part of more than an iconic fragrance and personal care brand — you become part of Gingham Nation, where people are at the center of everything we do.

We believe great associate experiences create great consumer experiences. When our associates feel supported, inspired and empowered, consumers feel it. The role of the Bath & Body Works Safe and Secure Ambassador (SSA) is to protect people, brand, and property in their home store environment. The mission of a SSA is to assist the store team in preventing and minimizing risk of life safety and theft & fraud events through consistent communication, partnerships, and education at all levels.

  • Collaborate with RAPM (Regional Asset Protection Manager) to follow up on safety and security incidents.
  • Problem-solve extreme store events using brand de-escalation tactics.
  • Assist the store team with driving a strong physical security culture by educating and upholding all BBW policies and procedures.
  • Educate and develop the store team regarding shortage and safety behaviors.
  • Collect, document, and communicate asset protection (AP) trends, theft, and fraud intelligence with RAPM and store leadership team (SLT).
  • Assist in, document, and communicate all merchandise recoveries using BBW tools.
  • Assist with Shrink Protection Program (SPP) assessment follow up and execution on action plans.
  • Submit appropriate documentation in the system for all organized retail crime (ORC) incidents following BBW AP policies and procedures.
  • Work with law enforcement and RAPM to identify and resolve open cases.
  • Assist the SLT with modeling working safely, while maintaining a clean store.
  • Demonstrate a culture of ethical conduct, safety, and compliance.
  • All other duties based on the business needs and direction of the store manager and/or RAPM.
  • All store positions require constant physical activity, including standing, walking, reaching, and lifting. Associates are expected to climb ladders, lift, reach, bend, and kneel to obtain products for customers and to maintain the visual appearance of the store. Associates should be able to lift 10 pounds consistently and up to 50 pounds.

Qualifications

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.

  • Flexible work availability to include nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Effective communication.
  • Experience in learning and adapting to different technology needs and changes.
  • Strong ability to work independently and with a team.
