What is a PHP Python Developer?

A PHP Python Developer is a software professional skilled in programming with both PHP and Python languages. These developers typically build and maintain web applications, APIs, and backend systems using PHP (often for server-side scripting) and Python (for web frameworks, automation, or data processing). Their dual expertise allows them to work on projects that require integration, migration, or interoperability between PHP and Python codebases. They may collaborate with other developers, write clean and efficient code, and troubleshoot issues in either language. This versatility is valuable for companies maintaining legacy PHP systems while adopting Python for modern development.

How do PHP Python Developers typically collaborate with other team members on cross-functional projects?

PHP Python Developers frequently work alongside front-end developers, designers, QA engineers, and project managers to deliver integrated solutions. Collaboration often involves participating in agile sprints, attending daily standups, and conducting code reviews to ensure smooth integration between backend and frontend components. Strong communication is essential, as developers must clarify technical requirements, troubleshoot issues, and provide updates on progress. This teamwork helps ensure that project goals are met efficiently and that the final product aligns with user and business needs.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a PHP Python Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a PHP Python Developer, you need solid programming skills in PHP and Python, experience with web frameworks, and a relevant degree or equivalent experience in computer science. Familiarity with tools such as Git, databases like MySQL or PostgreSQL, and frameworks like Laravel or Django is commonly required. Strong problem-solving, teamwork, and effective communication help developers collaborate and adapt to evolving project demands. These abilities ensure robust, scalable solutions and successful integration within technical teams.

Sidecar

San Francisco, CA

Full-time

Re-posted 27 days ago

Job description

Sidecar’s engineering team is changing transportation as you know it. We are on the front lines of one of tech's breakout models, and we’re looking for high-caliber developers to help us build the future of ridesharing. We believe in good working relationships, refined but flexible processes, flat authority structures, and innovation.

You will work with the rest of the team on all aspects of our backend, potentially touching everything from server management to architecture, to debugging and building. We put a lot of faith in each of our engineers, and everyone on the team handles mission-critical projects on a regular basis.

We're building our new infrastructure in Python using the Pyramid framework, but we also maintain legacy code in PHP Codeigniter and Express.js. Experience with these (especially Python) is a big plus

Our office is located in downtown San Francisco and is full of smart, hard-working people collaborating to bring ride-sharing to everyone… and having a great time along the way!

Responsibilities

  • Code using primarily Python, Nodejs and PHP.

  • Work closely with other engineers on the team and build on each other’s ideas.

  • Participate in the design process and in code reviews.

  • Analyze and improve efficiency, scalability, and stability of various system resources.

  • Be proud of your work - what you do has a direct impact on our customers’ experience.

Requirements

  • Strong engineering background coupled with experience around machine learning, pattern recognition, etc.

  • Expert knowledge developing and debugging in PHP/Python.

  • Experience in the fraud space is a plus, but not required. Either way, you should be passionate about tackling the problem and the impact you can have on the company.

  • Passion for finding problems with software and helping ensure they never happen again.

  • Easily bored by monotony, would rather write a script to automate it.

  • BS / MS in Computer Science or related field.
Employment Type: Full-Time
