Title: FederalArchivist

Location: 100% On-Site, Washington, DC, 20590

Pay Range: $70,000 - $90,000

KMRG, LLC (KMRG) is a federal services company that hires talented professionals to support Government agencies and the communities they serve. We are hiring a Federal Archivist to support the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) onsite at its headquarters in Washington, DC.

In this role, you will support the Bob McManus historical collection from initial inventory and appraisal through preservation, digitization, cataloging, research, and public access. The collection includes official documents, reports, manuals, publications, appropriations hearings, meeting notebooks, photographs, artifacts, and digital files.

Your work will help preserve FTA's history and make historically valuable materials accessible to FTA employees, transit stakeholders, and the public.

RESPONSIBILITIES Collection Review & Appraisal
  • Inventory and analyze the 15 boxes of McManus collection materials
  • Review official documents, reports, manuals, publications, hearings, and meeting notebooks
  • Assess the physical condition and historical content of collection materials
  • Determine historical value, disposition, and suitability for permanent FTA retention
Preservation & Digitization
  • Apply archival preservation, storage, and conservation techniques
  • Digitize photographs, maps, documents, and other historical materials
  • Manage digital photo files already provided with the McManus collection
Cataloging & Digital Access
  • Store digitized materials in the FTA History Hub and other FTA or DOT systems
  • Prepare indexes, meta-tags, and material descriptions for archived content
  • Convert paper materials into digital formats where possible
Research & Public Access
  • Assist archive users with information retrieval and historical research
  • Support presentations and digital content that make the collection accessible
  • Help FTA employees, transit stakeholders, and the public access McManus materials
  • Research McManus materials to develop web posts, displays, and presentations
  • Author articles about FTA history for publication
  • Archive related documents and update historical information on FTA websites
REQUIRED BACKGROUND
  • 5-10 years of relevant archivist and/or records-management experience

Other Considerations. Applicants will be subject to a background investigation. Individual’s primary workstation is located in an office area. The noise level in this environment is low to moderate. Regularly required to sit for extended periods up to 100% of the time; frequently required to move about to access file cabinets and use office equipment such as PC, copier, fax, telephone, cell phone, etc. Occasionally required to reach overhead, bend, and lift objects of up to 10 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include the use of computer monitor screens up to 100% of the time.
