Job description

The focus of the Engineer Technician will be to ensure all building systems are maintained in a fully functioning and safe manner. The Engineer Technician will also be responsible for completing carpentry, plumbing, minor electrical, painting, drywall/finish repair, and other facilities related tasks as assigned.

Primary Duties

Additional Responsibilities

Maintain all (EH&S) Safety requirements to include PPE, LOTO, CFC refrigeration/recovery plan, ladder safety, driving safety, light/battery recycle program, SDS, emergency operations plan, fuel fill procedures, weekly fuel level inspections, and spill response plan.

  • Complete all work orders within guidelines established in maintenance SOPs.
  • Ensure all PM's/CM's are properly identified in the CMMS. Complete all assigned CM's in a timely and proficient manner.
  • Complete all routine building mechanical system PMs. Perform daily building system maintenance checks.
  • Maintain Engineering Safety Inspection books for all locations, ensures all documents are filed in each book as required.
  • Ensure all systems are fully operational, maintained and all required state/local/department inspections are completed and documented and filed at all times. This includes Fire alarm/Life safety systems, HVAC, Cooling towers, pumps, CRAC units, Split systems, Chillers, Mechanical, electrical, appliance repairs as soon as possible as not to effect operations. All issues must be promptly reported to the VP of Facilities.
  • Maintain all HVAC and related equipment to include repair of plumbing, wiring, equipment, or appliances to ensure that installation is performed properly and is in compliance with applicable regulations. Ensure all appliances are operating per design, make all required repairs and report issues to the VP of Facilities immediately.
  • Troubleshoot and replace pumps, motors, compressors, coils, filters, controllers, all electrical components, control boards, pulleys, belts, valves and seals. Report all failed or failing equipment to the VP of Facilities immediately.
  • Assist with snow removal, escorting contractors, assist with all plumbing repairs, perform basic carpentry/handyman tasks, and maintain clean work areas. Assist in performing annual facility inspections as directed. Perform required drywall repairs, painting, and minor carpentry tasks as required. Execute internal moves and associated furniture set-up.
  • Conduct inspections, using survey instruments, metering devices, tape measures, or test equipment. Inspect and monitor construction sites to ensure adherence to safety standards, building codes, or specifications. Inspect facilities or installations to determine their environmental impact.
  • Maintain and operator emergency Generators. Maintain and inspect the UST and day tank, monitor fuel levels per program. Measure dimensions and verify level, alignment, or elevation of structures or fixtures to ensure compliance to building plans and codes.
  • Maintain daily logs and supplement inspection records with photographs. Review and interpret plans, blueprints, site layouts, specifications, or construction methods to ensure compliance to legal requirements and safety regulations. Evaluate project details to ensure adherence to environmental regulations.
  • Monitor construction activities to ensure that environmental regulations are not violated. Perform minor finish repairs and painting as required. Perform minor carpentry tasks as required. Execute internal moves and associated furniture set-up.
  • Monitor installation of plumbing, wiring, equipment, or appliances to ensure that installation is performed properly and complies with applicable regulations. Measure dimensions and verify level, alignment, or elevation of structures or fixtures to ensure compliance to building plans and codes.
  • Participate in the reliable operation of a safe physical plant, performing preventive maintenance as directed, keeping SOP book up to date, following SOPs, and follow emergency plans as directed.
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications: Education, Experience, and Certification(s)

  • High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED), technical school apprenticeship, trade school graduate or equivalent required.
  • Licensed CFC, 4-5 years' experience in general building maintenance required.
  • Experience troubleshooting complex mechanical, electrical and plumbing problems required.
  • Experience in entry level maintenance, Plant Equipment and Operations and Controls, Basic, Blueprint Reading, CFC Seminars and Test, Basic Electricity, Schematics, Electrical Systems, Electric Motors Electrical Systems Code & Theory, and Basic Boiler Plant Operator required.
  • Must be willing to work off hours (evenings and weekends) and respond to emergencies as directed by the VP of Facilities.
  • Valid driver's license and/or access to reliable transportation to perform work-related travel required. Eligible drivers must have a good motor vehicle record (MVR).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Requires excellent verbal, written, multi-tasking and presentation skills.
  • Must be able to replace pumps, motors and seals.
  • A basic training understanding of carpentry, plumbing, HVAC is required.
  • Working knowledge of piping systems and ability to read blueprints, respond to service tickets, clean cooling towers, conduct bathroom inspection, change filters, maintain mechanical rooms in a clean, operational state,

  • Independent judgment or initiative is expected.
