Job description

Position Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented and personable Clinical Photographer Assistant to join our plastic surgery and med spa team. In this role, you will be solely responsible for capturing standardized before-and-after photographs of patients, managing the secure upload and organization of those images, and ensuring strict adherence to all clinical photography protocols. This position plays a critical role in patient documentation, treatment tracking, and marketing/education materials, and requires a high level of professionalism, discretion, and consistency.

Responsibilities
  • Capture consistent, high-quality before-and-after photographs of patients in accordance with practice-specific positioning, lighting, and angle protocols (standardized views for facial, body, and skin treatments).
  • Prepare patients for photo sessions, including explaining the process, obtaining verbal or written consent as required, and ensuring patient comfort and privacy throughout.
  • Maintain and calibrate photography equipment (cameras, lighting, backdrops, tripods) to ensure consistent image quality across all sessions.
  • Upload, label, and organize all patient images into the electronic medical record (EMR) or designated photo management system promptly and accurately following each session.
  • Ensure all photo documentation complies with HIPAA and practice privacy policies, including secure storage, restricted access, and proper handling of protected health information (PHI).
  • Cross-reference photos with the correct patient chart, procedure, and visit date to maintain accurate, audit-ready records.
  • Flag and correct any inconsistencies in angle, lighting, or framing to maintain uniformity across a patient's treatment timeline.
  • Coordinate with providers and clinical staff to schedule photo sessions around procedure and appointment timing (e.g., pre-op, post-op, follow-up intervals).
  • Obtain and file photo release/consent forms for any images intended for marketing, social media, or educational use, separate from clinical documentation.
  • Maintain a clean, private, and professional photography space.
  • Stay current on practice-specific photography protocols and update procedures as directed by providers or practice leadership.

Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; coursework or certification in photography, medical assisting, or a related field is a plus.
  • Prior experience in clinical, medical, or professional photography preferred, but not required — training will be provided on practice-specific protocols.
  • Strong understanding of HIPAA privacy requirements and patient confidentiality standards.
  • Comfortable working closely with patients in sensitive or vulnerable situations, with a calm, respectful, and reassuring bedside manner.
  • Familiarity with digital cameras, photo editing basics, and EMR or cloud-based photo management systems (or ability to learn quickly).
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail and consistency.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and assist with positioning patients as needed.
