Garg Consulting Services, Inc. (Garg) provides construction management and field inspection services for transportation infrastructure across the Northeast. We're hiring a Senior Construction Inspector to support highway, bridge, and interchange construction projects in the Providence, RI area.
Position Overview
As a Senior Inspector, you will lead daily field inspection activities for roadway and bridge construction, verify work meets contract plans and specifications, and keep accurate project documentation. You'll coordinate with the Resident Engineer, contractor, testing teams, and stakeholders to support safe work zones, quality construction, and on-time delivery.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and mentor field inspectors on highway corridor improvements, including bridges, interchanges, roadway reconstruction, drainage, retaining walls, signing/ITS, lighting, pavement, and pavement markings.
  • Ensure contractor compliance with RIDOT specifications, approved plans, Special Provisions, and applicable FHWA requirements.
  • Inspect and document bridge/structural work (rebar, formwork/falsework, concrete placement/curing, structural steel, bearings, joints, deck systems, approach slabs, and bridge drainage).
  • Verify construction staging and Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) plans (lane shifts, detours, ramp changes, temporary patterns) and escalate field conflicts and safety issues quickly.
  • Support QA/QC and acceptance testing: review contractor QC records, coordinate sampling/testing (earthwork, aggregate, asphalt, concrete), and verify corrective actions are completed.
  • Measure and track quantities for pay items; maintain complete daily reports, diaries, field measurements, and photo documentation to support estimates and project records.
  • Identify constructability, schedule, and utility conflicts; coordinate with design, utilities, municipalities, and stakeholders to drive timely field resolutions.
  • Participate in progress, coordination, and safety meetings; provide inspection status, look-ahead needs, and risk items for bridge and interchange work.
  • Promote work-zone safety and environmental compliance (erosion and sediment controls, stormwater protections) and verify contractor adherence to project safety requirements.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, construction management, or related discipline with 4+ years of construction inspection experience on transportation projects (highway, bridge, interchange, or roadway reconstruction preferred) or;
  • NICET Highway Construction Inspection Level III certification with 6+ years of construction inspection experience on transportation projects (highway, bridge, interchange, or roadway reconstruction preferred)
  • Valid driver's license: ability to travel to project sites and work variable shifts (nights/weekends) as construction schedules require.
Preferred Qualifications
  • EIT/PE preferred. Relevant inspection certifications (e.g., ACI, NETTCP, or equivalent) a plus.
  • Experience inspecting bridge construction/rehabilitation (concrete, steel, bearings, joints, deck systems).
  • Working knowledge of work-zone traffic control and staged construction on high-volume roadways.
  • Proficiency with digital inspection reporting, quantity tracking, and photo documentation.
  • Prior experience on RIDOT projects and familiarity with RIDOT Standard Specifications.
