Job Description

This phlebotomist position focuses on performing high-quality blood draws in a patient service center environment, working primarily with straight needles while confidently using butterfly needles for more challenging collections. The role involves serving a diverse patient population, including pediatric patients, and requires strong administrative skills and attention to detail. Bilingual fluency in Spanish is essential to effectively communicate with patients and provide a supportive, professional experience.

Responsibilities

  • Perform venipuncture using straight needles for the majority of blood draws, ensuring safe and accurate collection.
  • Use butterfly needles as needed for difficult or hard-to-access veins, maintaining patient comfort and safety.
  • Draw blood from a variety of patient populations, including pediatric patients, with sensitivity and care.
  • Collect, label, and process blood specimens accurately, following established procedures and protocols.
  • Maintain meticulous attention to detail in all aspects of specimen collection, documentation, and handling.
  • Provide clear, empathetic communication to patients in both English and Spanish, explaining procedures and answering questions.
  • Work in a patient service center setting, ensuring a professional and welcoming environment for all patients.
  • Complete necessary administrative tasks related to blood collection, such as recording patient information and managing orders.
  • Follow all safety, hygiene, and infection control standards when handling needles, blood, and other specimens.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and other healthcare staff to support smooth daily operations in the service center.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience performing blood draws as a phlebotomist.
  • Proficiency in venipuncture using straight needles for routine blood collections.
  • Ability to use butterfly needles effectively for hard sticks and challenging venous access.
  • Experience working with pediatric patients and drawing blood from children.
  • Fluency in Spanish and English, with the ability to communicate clearly with Spanish-speaking patients.

Work Environment

The environment is clinical and patient-facing, requiring adherence to safety, hygiene, and infection control standards when working with needles and blood specimens. The role is well-suited for individuals who enjoy a consistent routine and in-state travel opportunities that offer a change of scenery. There are no holiday or vacation shifts required as part of this schedule.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $23.00/hr.
