Job description

Head of R&D, Advanced Imaging, IGT Devices

Job Description Lead the Research & Development organization for Philips Advanced Imaging, with accountability for the technical leadership, program execution, and delivery of complex cardiovascular imaging, AI-enabled software, and medical device products from concept through commercialization. This leader will build and lead high-performing multidisciplinary engineering teams, drive predictable execution against business priorities, and make timely, technically sound trade‑off decisions across performance, risk, quality, schedule, and resources. Your role: Advance Philips’ next‑generation imaging and AI-enabled solutions by translating technology and clinical needs into innovative, high-quality products that improve patient care, while strengthening development execution, predictability, and organizational scalability. Lead and develop multidisciplinary R&D teams across hardware, software, systems, optical, mechanical, electrical, and data science engineering. Own execution of the R&D portfolio and major product development programs, establishing clear priorities, milestones, resource plans, dependencies, and accountability, while making deliberate resource and priority trade‑offs to deliver against business commitments. Establish a rigorous operating cadence for program execution, proactively identifying critical‑path issues, resolving cross‑functional dependencies, and driving timely escalation and decision‑making. Provide decisive technical leadership across multidisciplinary programs, rapidly assessing complex issues, creating clarity in ambiguous situations, and making pragmatic, risk‑based trade‑off decisions across technical performance, product requirements, quality, schedule, and resources. Ensure compliance with FDA, ISO 13485, IEC 60601, MDR, and applicable global regulatory requirements. Partner cross‑functionally to align product development priorities with business objectives and operational capabilities. Build scalable development processes and foster a culture of innovation, accountability, and collaboration. Support strategic technology roadmap development and long‑term innovation initiatives. Manage technical, regulatory, and program risks throughout the product lifecycle.

You’re the right fit if: You bring 12+ years of medical device product development experience in a regulated environment, with a demonstrated track record leading multidisciplinary engineering organizations and delivering complex products from development through regulatory clearance, commercialization, and scale. You have exceptional technical judgment and systems‑level intuition, with the ability to quickly understand complex engineering problems, identify what matters most, challenge teams constructively, and make timely decisions when faced with competing technical, regulatory, schedule, and business constraints. Experience in medical imaging, cardiovascular or interventional technologies, AI‑enabled healthcare products, SaMD, and/or growth‑stage or integration environments is highly valued. You combine strategic R&D leadership with strong execution capabilities, technical and regulatory credibility, and expertise in design controls, risk management, and global medical device requirements including FDA, ISO 13485, IEC 60601, and MDR. You are an effective executive communicator with demonstrated strength in complex program execution, technical decision‑making, cross‑functional collaboration, organizational development, change leadership, and talent development. You are a strategic, customer‑and clinically focused technical leader who combines disciplined execution with the ability to advance meaningful innovation, building scalable R&D processes, develop high‑performing technical talent, and advancing next‑generation imaging and AI‑enabled product platforms.

You must be able to successfully perform the following minimum Physical, Cognitive and Environmental job requirements with or without accommodation for this position. Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related technical field required; an advanced degree is preferred.
