The Office of Innovation & Technology (OIT) is the central IT agency for the City of Philadelphia headed by the Chief Information Officer. This position is within the CityGeo team of OIT led by the Chief Geographic Information Officer (GIO).  The CityGeo team manages enterprise GIS operations for the city including on-prem and cloud services, large scale technology and data contracts, and governance for geodata sharing and development standards.  CityGeo is performing some of the most innovative work in municipal government on data analytics, application development, use of imagery and management of governance and multi-departmental stakeholder collaboration

Job Description

OIT is seeking a candidate with considerable technical knowledge and experience in the telephony field. The Telecommunication Technician will be responsible for installation, maintenance, and operational support of all Voice communications. 

The Telecommunication Technician will interface with the Communications manager, voice technical team, network, IT support team and departments.

Essential Functions

  • Troubleshoot and identifies software, hardware, telecommunications (traditional and VoIP) problems, using diagnostic equipment as necessary.
  • Configure, install, and program communication systems and related communication equipment; assembles component system parts; review diagrams, floor plans, charts, and technical manuals for installation of new systems.
  • Troubleshoot, repairs and inspect communication systems and related equipment such as headsets for proper operation or to determine malfunctioning components; disassemble and reassemble of phone units
  • Use of testing equipment to locate trouble source; test for system failures; test for defective system components; test for proper operation of installed system components and related equipment
  • Run and terminate and test voice and data cabling; troubleshoot cable pairs and is familiar with telephony tools and equipment.
  • Other responsibilities include running system backups
  • Work on NEC SV9300 and SV9500 systems
  • Work on legacy NEC phone systems Neax2000
Qualifications

Completion of an associate degree program at an accredited college or university with a major course work in      Computer Science, Information Technology, or a closely related field

 Any equivalent combination of education and experience determined to be acceptable by the Office of Innovation & Technology and Human Resources.

  • Knowledge of NEC SV8300/9300 and NEC SV8500/9500 a plus
  • Knowledge of NEC 2000
  • Knowledge of ACD/IVR
  • Speak effectively before customers

Additional Information

Salary Range: $48,000-$53,505

Salary cannot exceed $53,505
