The Scientist's role will be to support the development, optimization, and scale-up of radiochemical processes to produce Actinium-225 through cyclotron irradiation of Radium-226 targets. This role will focus on radiochemical separations, process engineering, automation, and manufacturing readiness associated with alpha-emitting isotopes. This individual will play a key role in translating laboratory-scale concepts into robust, scalable production processes suitable for implementation in shielded hot cells and GMP manufacturing facilities. Additional responsibilities may be assigned as required to bring technical expertise to RayzeBio initiatives.
Job Responsibilities
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Design, execute, and optimize radiochemical processes associated with the production, purification, and recovery of Actinium-225 and related isotopes.
- Develop and implement separation and purification methods using chromatography, precipitation, solvent extraction, and other radiochemical techniques.
- Support process scale-up from benchtop experiments to shielded hot cell operations.
- Perform hands-on work with radioactive materials, including alpha-emitting isotopes, while maintaining strict adherence to radiological safety practices.
- Develop process flow diagrams, equipment specifications, operating procedures, and technical reports.
- Collaborate with engineering teams on process equipment design, automation systems, shielding requirements, and facility integration.
- Participate in target processing development, radionuclide recovery strategies, waste minimization efforts, and process troubleshooting.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and scientific literature to improve isotope production efficiency, reliability, and throughput.
- Generate and analyze experimental data using statistical and scientific methods to guide process decisions.
- Support technology transfer activities into manufacturing environments.
- Uses AI tools to enhance individual productivity and quality of work
- Contribute to regulatory documentation, safety reviews, and manufacturing readiness assessments as needed.
- Mentor junior scientists and technicians while promoting a culture of scientific rigor and operational excellence.
