The Department of Civil, Environmental, and Architectural Engineering and the Materials Science and Engineering Program invite applications for a Postdoctoral Associate position under the joint supervision of Prof. Mija Hubler and Prof. Wil Srubar. What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

The Postdoctoral Associate will design and conduct experiments on the biological repair of aged concrete. When appropriate, the Postdoctoral Research Associate will participate in and support technology transfer activities to support the commercialization of the work. The Postdoctoral Research Associate will be expected to contribute to enhancing the vision and mission of a vibrant, cross-disciplinary collaborative research team at the University of Colorado Boulder at the intersection of biology, materials science, and civil and architectural engineering.

What We Require
  • A PhD in civil engineering, biological engineering, materials science, environmental engineering, or a related field.
  • A strong technical foundation and experience in standard and advanced lab-scale materials synthesis and characterization techniques (e.g., SEM, XRD, XRF, DSC, TGA, FTIR, zeta potential, particle size analysis, and mechanical testing) for organic and inorganic materials.
  • Experience in statistical analysis.
What You Will Need
  • Experience in basic microbiology techniques.
  • Experience in biopolymer science and engineering, including advanced characterization of soft materials (e.g., TGA, DSC, FTIR).
  • Basic to advanced understanding of biopolymer synthesis and characterization, including microbial cultivation, biopolymer/biofilm formation, and characterization.
What We Would Like You to Have
  • Experience in genomics/bioinformatics.
  • Experience in microbial interactions and co-culture techniques.
  • Experience in characterization of cementitious materials.
  • Experience in geomicrobiology (organic/inorganic interactions).
