Job description

SALARY:

Starting at $17.09 per hour

SUMMARY:

Under general supervision, the Sports Assistant supports the daily operations of sports league sites, ensuring a safe, organized, and enjoyable environment for participants and spectators. This role involves assisting with game-day logistics, enforcing league rules, and providing excellent customer service. The ideal candidate will have a working knowledge of recreational sports and demonstrate strong communication and problem-solving skills.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Assist with on-site supervision during league games and practices
  • Operate scoreboards and update game scores accurately
  • Enforce league rules and city ordinances (ASA, USSSA, youth soccer, basketball)
  • Support referees and sports officials during games
  • Respond to participant inquiries and resolve minor complaints
  • Complete incident reports and submit documentation as required
  • Assist with handling disputes and escalating issues appropriately
  • Maintain cleanliness and safety of the facility, including trash pickup
  • Serve as a point of contact for participants and spectators
  • Arrive on time and in uniform with necessary officiating equipment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Knowledge of office and administrative practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of recreational sports rules and officiating standards
  • Knowledge of basic first aid and emergency response procedures
  • Knowledge on of recreational sports rules.

Qualifying Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Successful completion of City of Arlington's CPR and First Aid training (required upon hire)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Certification in sport-specific rules.
  • Experience officiating recreational sports.
