Job description

The Department of Literature within the School of Arts and Humanities at UC San Diego is committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff, and student body. We invite applications for Temporary Lecturer(s) in Literary Arts for the 2026-2027 academic year.

The successful applicant(s) will have expertise in teaching both craft and workshop courses in fiction and cross-genre writing, including Short Fiction, and Speculative Fiction, and Intercultural Writing.

Appointments will be quarterly and part-time (1-2 classes per quarter) for one 1-2 quarters.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Hold an MFA or PHD in Creative Writing, Literary Arts, or equivalent field of practice demonstrating outstanding teaching experience (at least 2 years)
  • Teaching at the College level in Fiction Writing, and one other genre of intercultural writing
  • Publications of fiction and/or intercultural writing in Peer-Reviewed Journals

Preferred: 

  • Demonstrates outstanding teaching experience in Fiction and open-genre Literary Arts that explores intersections of form and content across a variety of cultural, ethnic, or linguistic tradition.
  • One or more books in the above genres
  • Local to San Diego/La Jolla area
  • Flexible to department course needs
