The Department of Speech-Language Pathology at Xavier University of Louisiana invites applicants for a position at the Assistant/Associate Professor level for a one-year term beginning August 2026.
The successful candidate will hold a PhD in Speech-Language Pathology or related fields - e.g.Psychology, Linguistic Sciences. The department seeks candidates whose area of concentration or scholarly expertise is in child and adolescent language disorders and one or more of the following areas: literacy, bilingualism, developmental disabilities, speech sound disorders, phonology, disorders of rhythm, or complex communication. The ideal candidate(s) will demonstrate the potential for excellence in teaching, research, and clinical supervision to HBCU undergraduate and graduate students; a record of scholarly work; and dedication to providing training and services relating to culturally and linguistically diverse populations. The university is particularly interested in applicants who have experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and who have demonstrated a commitment to improving access to higher education, enhancing equity, and social justice.
Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in speech-language pathology;
  • Maintain an active research agenda, including scholarly publications and/or grant activity;
  • Provide clinical supervision for students engaged in practicum experiences;
  • Advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students;
  • Contribute to curriculum development, program growth, and accreditation efforts;
  • Participate in service activities at the department, university, professional, and community levels;
  • Support student recruitment and engagement initiatives; and
  • Develop and teach courses in multiple modalities, including face-to-face and online instruction; and Demonstrate support to HBCU undergraduate and graduate students through academic advising as well as mentorship.

About our Department and the Positions
The Department of Speech Pathology offers undergraduate and graduate programs in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology. The Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology is accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation (CAA) of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. In the department of Speech Pathology, undergraduate seniors have the opportunity to enroll in two semesters of clinical practica, and graduate students enroll in clinical practica each semester of enrollment. Xavier encourages cross-disciplinary collaborations with faculty from various areas, including pharmacy, physician assistant, genetic counseling, counseling, public health, education and psychology.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Speech-Language Pathology or a closely related field (ABD considered; degree must be completed prior to appointment);
  • Current ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP);
  • Eligibility for licensure in the state of Louisiana;
  • At least nine months of full-time clinical experience after the CCC-SLP;
  • Commitment to developing an active research program within the area of the applicant's expertise;
  • Conduct ongoing, independent research, resulting in scholarly publications and/or successful grant proposals;
  • Commitment to academic advising and mentoring for undergraduate and graduate students in the department;
  • Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a diverse student population;
  • Write and speak English proficiently;
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative academic environment; and
  • Commitment to the mission of Xavier University of Louisiana.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in child and/or adolescent language disorders, literacy, developmental disabilities, speech sound disorders, phonology, disorders of rhythm, or complex communication;
  • Experience teaching at the undergraduate and/or graduate level;
  • Record of scholarly publications or demonstrate the potential for sustained research productivity;
  • Experience with grant writing or funded research; and
  • Commitment to innovative and effective teaching practices.
