Job description

Touchmark in the West Hills is Portland’s leading resort-style retirement community enriching the lives of residents and their families through five-star hospitality, services, and amenities.   We are currently seeking a wellness-obsessed individual to join our growing team as an Exercise Specialist for our Health and Fitness Club. 
 

As an Exercise Specialist with Touchmark, you will enrich lives each day by assisting, monitoring, and instructing residents in the safe and effective use of equipment and weight machines in order to meet their personal fitness goals and needs.  You will also conduct fitness consultations and assessments in order to help develop individualized fitness programs that ensure resident safety and follow each resident's care plan.  Experience in personal training with seniors and promoting/selling training is necessary – you’ll be conducting club tours for potential members, residents, and guests, and explaining the benefits of membership, in order to build your client base.

Club membership is open to Touchmark residents, as well as adults in the greater community aged 50 and over, and members enjoy a wide range of activities and classes that can positively affect age-related conditions and encourage lifelong health and wellness. All programs are tailored to individual levels of ability, skill, and personal fitness goals. A long list of amenities are also offered, including an indoor heated pool, a group exercise studio, one-on-one personal training, a fully-equipped fitness studio, and a NeuroCom Balance Master system. 

 
The ideal candidate will:

  • Have a commitment to Touchmark’s values (hospitality, compassion, excellence, teamwork, and integrity), as well as a desire to model these values and to encourage others to be allies, friends, and givers
  • Current personal training certification through a NCCA accredited organization is required
  • A bachelor’s degree in an exercise science-related discipline
  • Be comfortable answering phones while greeting and providing information to members
  • Be excellent at handling multiple tasks simultaneously
  • At least five years of experience working as a Certified Personal Trainer or Exercise Physiologist
  • At least five years’ experience working with a mature population
  • Experience in instructing group exercise classes in the format their certification is in
  • Experience in instructing yoga, both chair & mat
  • A positive, upbeat, and energetic approach to health, wellness, teamwork, and hospitality
  • Current CPR/First Aid/AED certification, or be willing to obtain upon hire
  • Have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and basic office equipment
  • Be able to maintain patient and tactful composure when dealing with residents, family members, staff members, and visitors
  • Group exercise experience is preferable and could potentially increase hours.
  • Senior Dance/Zumba teaching experience would be beneficial.

Wages: Personal Training    $35 - $40 hour
             Group Instructor      $25 - $31 hour

             Administration          $17 hour
