JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
The Senior Chemist provides technical leadership and scientific expertise to support Quality Control laboratory operations, with emphasis on advanced analytical techniques including NMR, LC-MS, and GC-MS. This role is responsible for reviewing and approving analytical data, leading laboratory investigations, supporting method development and validation activities, implementing new analytical technologies, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. The Senior Chemist serves as a technical resource to QC personnel, collaborates with cross-functional teams, supports regulatory inspections and customer projects, and ensures compliance with quality, safety, and laboratory standards.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide technical oversight for Quality Control laboratory operations, ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of analytical testing, protocols, methods, and change controls.
  • Review and approve analytical data while leading investigations related to deviations, out-of-specification (OOS) results, and other laboratory issues.
  • Develop, execute, and support protocol-driven studies, including method development, verification, validation, investigational studies, and method transfers.
  • Serve as the technical subject matter expert for analytical methodologies and provide coaching, mentoring, and technical guidance to QC personnel.
  • Lead or support the implementation of new analytical technologies, methodologies, and continuous improvement initiatives that enhance laboratory efficiency and performance.
  • Partner with manufacturing, process development, project management, and cross-functional teams to support manufacturing investigations and new product introductions.
  • Interface with customers and regulatory agencies to support technical discussions, inspections, audits, and project requirements as needed.
  • Coordinate laboratory activities, contribute to internal and customer-driven projects, and provide project support for new product implementation into QC.
  • Ensure compliance with quality systems, safety requirements, laboratory procedures, and regulatory standards while promoting operational excellence.
  • Manage multiple priorities independently while maintaining effective communication and strong working relationships across technical and business functions.

REQUIREMENTS
  • PhD in Chemistry with 3-5 years of industrial laboratory experience; OR
  • Master's degree in Chemistry or a related scientific discipline with 5-10 years of industrial laboratory experience; OR
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or a related scientific discipline with 10-15 years of industrial laboratory experience.
  • Strong knowledge of analytical chemistry principles and laboratory techniques.
  • Experience reviewing and approving analytical data, laboratory documentation, and change controls.
  • Experience supporting method development, validation, verification, and technology transfer activities utilizing NMR, LC-MS, and/or GC-MS techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage laboratory investigations and technical projects.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills with the ability to mentor and train technical staff.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects while maintaining compliance with quality, safety, and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience supporting regulatory inspections and customer audits.
  • Experience implementing new analytical methodologies or laboratory technologies.
  • Experience leading cross-functional technical projects or new product introductions.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing investigations, root cause analysis, and deviation management.
  • Experience serving as a technical subject matter expert within a Quality Control laboratory.
  • Willingness to work non-core hours as needed to support 24/7 manufacturing operations.
