The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC) seeks a dynamic and visionary leader to serve as Vice Chair of Education. This position is responsible for overseeing and advancing the department's educational mission, fostering excellence in teaching, training, and mentorship across all levels of learners, and ensuring alignment with institutional goals and accreditation standards.
Key Responsibilities:
• Strategic Leadership in Education:
o Review and revise the department's educational strategic plan to align with Departmental, Medical Center and institutional strategic plans
o Collaborate with the Chair, departmental leadership, and institutional stakeholders to align educational initiatives with the broader mission of URMC
• Curriculum Development and Innovation:
o Oversee the design, implementation, and evaluation of curricula for medical students, residents, fellows, and other learners
o Promote the integration of innovative teaching methods, including simulation, digital tools, and interprofessional education, to enhance learning outcomes
• Program Oversight and Accreditation:
o Ensure compliance with accreditation standards for training programs, including those set by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and NAACLS as well other accrediting bodies
o Monitor program performance and outcomes, addressing areas for improvement and maintaining excellence in training programs
• Mentorship and Faculty Development:
o Serve as a mentor and resource for faculty involved in educational activities, supporting their growth as educators and leaders
o Develop and implement faculty development programs to enhance teaching skills, promote scholarship in education, and foster career advancement
• Learner Support and Advocacy:
o Create an inclusive and supportive environment for learners across the educational spectrum, including medical students, residents, fellows, and other trainees
o Advocate for resources and opportunities that enhance the educational experience and support learner well-being
• Collaboration and Outreach:
o Partner with other departments, schools, and external organizations to promote interdisciplinary education and collaboration
o Represent the department in institutional and national forums related to medical education
• Scholarship and Research in Education:
o Encourage and support educational research and scholarship within the department
o Promote dissemination of innovative practices and findings through presentations, publications, and conferences
The Vice Chair of Education will play a critical role in shaping the future of education within the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at URMC. Qualifications
• MD, PhD, or equivalent degree in Pathology or related field
• Demonstrated excellence in teaching, curriculum development, and educational leadership
• Experience in educational program administration
• Commitment to fostering an environment where every trainee feels respected and supported and is provided equal opportunity
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
Preferred Qualifications:
Track record of scholarship in medical education, including publications and presentations
• Experience with innovative teaching methods and technologies
• Leadership experience in academic medicine or medical education

The referenced pay range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the base range of compensation for this faculty position. Individual salaries will be determined within the job's salary range and established based on (but not limited to) market data, experience and expertise of the individual, and with consideration to related position salaries. Alignment of clinical incentive-based compensation may also be applicable and will be discussed during the hiring process.
