Job Summary
Set up and perform molecular dynamics simulations of membrane transporters and other membrane associated systems alongside the collaborating experimental labs, conduct docking studies of small molecules in search of effective inhibitors for the protein that can be tested experimentally, administer local computer systems and network and coordinate the training and outreach activities of the NIH Resource for Macromolecular Modeling and Visualization. Duties & Responsibilities
  • Set up and perform simulations and analyses. Set up and perform molecular dynamics simulations of membrane transporters and other membrane associated systems alongside the collaborating experimental labs. Simulate and analyze membrane proteins involved in transport of neurotransmitters in the brain. Perform docking studies of small molecules in search of effective inhibitors for the protein that can be tested experimentally.
  • Assist the group systems administration team in handling computers with a variety of architectures and operating systems. Install new machines in the physical space and add them to queues. Upgrade software and debug computer issues.
  • Coordinate training and outreach activities. Attend and coordinate activities such as the Beckman Open House, staff the hands-on sessions in annual workshops and provide 3D demos to visitors.
  • Use the results of the simulations to prepare manuscripts for submission to scientific journals.
Minimum Qualifications
  • PhD in physics, biophysics, chemistry or a related molecular field.
  • Experience with molecular systems using computational techniques, molecular simulation, docking, ligand-protein studies, drug design, analysis scripting and/or working on membrane transporters.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience performing molecular dynamics simulations with NAMD.
  • Extensive work with VMD.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of shell, Tcl and Python scripting.
  • Knowledge of supercomputing.
  • Ability to work on local computer systems and networks.
Appointment Information
This is a 100% full-time Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the posting period closes. The salary range for this position is $52,000/year- $58,000/year. Final salary offeredwill be determined by a thorough assessment of available market data, internalsalary equity, candidate experience and qualifications, collective bargainingagreements and budget constraints.
This position is eligible for sponsorship for work authorization, except for sponsorship of a new H1B petition that would incur the $100,000 fee.
