PhD Biotech professionals are individuals who have earned a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in biotechnology, a field that combines biology, chemistry, engineering, and computer science to develop products and technologies for healthcare, agriculture, and industry. These experts conduct advanced research, develop new technologies, and often lead projects in academic, industrial, or governmental settings. Their work can include genetic engineering, drug development, environmental sustainability, and more. PhD holders in biotechnology are typically involved in both laboratory research and the application of scientific findings to solve real-world problems.

What are some common challenges faced by PhD Biotech professionals, and how can they be addressed?

PhD-level professionals in biotech often encounter challenges such as balancing research innovation with project deadlines, navigating interdisciplinary collaboration, and adapting to rapidly changing technologies. To address these, it’s helpful to develop strong project management skills, actively seek feedback from colleagues in other scientific and business domains, and stay updated through continuous learning. Engaging in cross-functional teams and participating in professional development programs can also enhance both technical and soft skills, ensuring success in a dynamic biotech environment.

IN THIS POSITION, YOU WILL:

  • Develop and execute business development plans for key pharmaceutical and biotechnology accounts to achieve revenue growth objectives.
  • Identify, qualify, and pursue new commercial opportunities, strategic collaborations, and partnerships within the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and drug discovery markets.
  • Own complex business development opportunities from initial customer engagement through proposal development, contract negotiation, and successful close.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders across pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and CRO organizations.
  • Partner closely with the Sales organization to develop strategic account plans and identify opportunities for expanded engagement.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Scientific Partnerships and internal scientific teams to develop solutions that align Parse's capabilities with customer research objectives.
  • Work cross-functionally with Product Management, R&D, Marketing, Finance, Legal, and Operations to support customer opportunities and ensure successful execution.
  • Conduct market research and competitive analysis to identify emerging scientific trends, customer needs, and new market opportunities.
  • Represent Parse Biosciences at scientific conferences, industry meetings, and customer events to strengthen relationships and expand business opportunities.
  • Maintain an accurate sales pipeline and provide regular forecasts, opportunity updates, and market insights to senior leadership.
  • Serve as a trusted commercial advisor for strategic customers while identifying opportunities for future collaboration and growth.

FOR THIS POSITION, WE LOOK FOR

  • Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences, Business, or a related field required; MBA, PhD, or related advanced degree preferred.
  • 8+ years of business development, strategic sales, or commercial experience within life sciences, biotechnology, pharmaceutical services, CROs, genomics, or related industries.
  • Demonstrated success developing and closing complex commercial partnerships with pharmaceutical or biotechnology organizations.
  • Strong understanding of pharmaceutical research, drug discovery, genomics, or related life science markets.
  • Experience negotiating commercial agreements and managing complex business development opportunities.
  • Established relationships within the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or drug discovery community are preferred.
  • Demonstrated understanding of drug discovery workflows; experience supporting oncology and immunology research is highly desirable.
  • Strong strategic thinking, analytical, negotiation, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across commercial, scientific, and operational teams.
  • Experience using CRM software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Willingness to travel as needed, up to approximately 40% of the time.

JOB CONDITIONS

  • This position is home office based and will require a reliable internet connection and suitable workspace to fulfill job duties effectively.
  • Regular communication and collaboration with team members will occur virtually through zoom meetings, instant messaging, and email.
  • Travel requirements: This position include regular travel to visit potential and current clients, attend conferences, and meetings or training at the company headquarters in Seattle. Candidates should have the flexibility to accommodate travel requirements as needed.
