JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Inpatient Pharmacy Technician Trainee performs those duties, which do not require the professional training and judgment of a pharmacist. The Inpatient Pharmacy Technician Trainee will learn and demonstrate the mastery of compounding and filling medication orders, deliveries to patient care and ancillary areas, managing technology including Carousel and Pyxis. The Inpatient Pharmacy Technician Trainee learns and demonstrates the ability to maintain effective workflow within the department when staffing as expeditor. Upon completion of all central pharmacy competencies and the Pyxis competency, the Inpatient Pharmacy Technician Trainee may advance into and train in other specialty areas such as sterile compounding, hazardous compounding, O.R., Controlled Substances, or In-Basket.

EDUCATION:

High school Diploma or GED plus one year of post high school education or relevant work experience preferred.

Certification with the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or with the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) needed for promotion within the Pharmacy Technician

Trainee will register with the State of Vermont Board of Pharmacy as a Pharmacy Technician before the start of employment.

EXPERIENCE:

Inpatient pharmacy technician experience or minimum of one year retail pharmacy technician work experience preferred. Other relevant education or work experience may be considered.
