Job description

Pharmacy Resident

The Pharmacy Resident holds a twelve month educational position and receives training and experience in advanced clinical pharmacy practice under the supervision of a preceptor. The Resident reports to the Residency Program Director and is precepted by the residency preceptors. The Resident works with the preceptor to develop clinical and project management skills on each of the required and elective rotations and provides service to the department on the weekends. The following more fully delineates the responsibilities of this individual.

Education/Experience Required: Must have earned a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree. PGY2 residents should have completed an ASHP accredited residency or have equivalent practice experience. Must demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills which enable him/her to contribute effectively in the dissemination of drug information to all levels of health care personnel in the institution. Must demonstrate the ability to work with others in developing improved services for patients. Must have the desire and capabilities needed to identify therapeutic problems and seek to solve these dilemmas in a logical manner. Must have the desire and skills needed to conduct clinical pharmacy research or quality improvement projects.

Certifications/Licensures Required: Must be eligible for licensure in the State of Michigan. Pharmacist licensure in the State of Michigan must be obtained within 150 days of the date of hire. Failure to obtain licensure within the designated time-frame may result in termination of the Pharmacy Resident position or extension of the program in order to ensure the Pharmacy Resident is licensed for a minimum of 2/3 of the residency year.
