Area of Responsibilities
*Assesses and maintains pharmacy inventory including minimums and maximums. Works to maximize and improve inventory turnover.
*Checks in, unpacks, stickers and places orders received in appropriate locations using proper stock rotation techniques to minimize outdated medications. Returns outdated and unusable medications to the manufacturer or vendor.
*Responsible for organizing and performing annual inventory counts.
*Responsible for the monthly inspection of all medications and fluids. Ensures that the integrity of all pharmaceuticals is maintained and that they are stored according to manufacturers? specifications.
*Works closely with wholesaler to maintain 98% contract compliance. Works closely with technical staff to ensure availability of critical medications.
*Assists in maintenance and development of departmental policies and procedures, preparing for, and maintaining Joint Commission compliance.
*Assists in monitoring all processes for performance improvement and error reduction.
*Documents all recalled medications, actions taken, and maintains records.
*Eligible and encouraged to participate as a departmental mentor.
*Informs staff daily of backorders and shortages and pursues alternative suppliers of products.
*Maintains 340B program competence through successful completion of CEUs, other learning modules, or participation in 340B educational events (at least 2 per year). Is responsible for the compliance, monitoring, tracking, and reporting of all components of the facility's 340B program.
*Maintains all controlled substances records to ensure accuracy of inventory. Performs as leader and manager of controlled substances.
*Maintains current computer drug file to ensure accuracy of inventory location and pricing. Manages inventory to ensure proper bar coding recognition in the facility's information BMV system.
*Performs as leader and manager of all inventory dispensing systems (Pyxis or other automated dispensing system).
*Performs effectively and efficiently as a staff pharmacy technician when needed. Maintains all required competencies (i.e.: preparation of sterile and hazardous IV admixtures, automated dispensing cabinet functions, obtaining and verifying the list of patient?s medications taken at home, order filling, and charge and credit reconciliation, etc).
*Responsible for automated dispensing inventory control program.
*Responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and organization of pharmacy stock.
*Responsible for the maintenance of all medications and supplies for daily repackaging operations of pharmacy department.
Compliance Statement
Employee performs within the prescribed limits of Tanner Health System's Ethics and Compliance program. Is responsible to detect, observe, and report compliance variances to their immediate supervisor, the Compliance Officer, or the Hotline.
Education
High School Diploma or GED
Experience
Six years of related experience. Requires advanced knowledge in highly specialized systems and procedures.

Definitions
*The Pharmacy Inventory Specialist manages the daily inventory requirements of the department. This person will assist and provide leadership with the management of any inventory issue including, but not limited to: ordering, receiving, transferring, automated dispensing cabinet (ADC) management, repackaging management, and controlled substances management. This employee will assist pharmacists and the pharmacy department team with providing medication services and pharmaceutical care to patients and other departments throughout the health system.

Requires frequent but limited contacts with many others to do job, or extensive contacts with a limited number of categories of people to apply procedures or treatment. Requires discretion and tact to interpret departmental procedures.
Effect Of Error
Probable errors may be serious and involve losses such as improper costs, overpayment, waste of material, damage to equipment, and delay in processing work. Regularly works with some confidential data such as account, salaries, patient medical records, which if disclosed might have adverse internal or external effects.
Supervisory Responsibility
Has limited supervision over a large section of employees (15 up), i.e. assigns and directs their work; instructs new employees and corrects results, may discuss with supervisor, but has no authority over job content or personnel. Team governance where the Members evaluate, interview, and recommend personnel actions.

Work involves a variety of problems in a general field, some of which are complex. Involves some independent judgment to decide what to do to assemble facts, determine variations from standard procedures, or plan other action to be taken to meet general objectives.
