Position Title
Certified Pharmacy Automation Technician
Job Description
Purpose & Scope:
The Certified Pharmacy Automation Technician is a staffing position with additional responsibilities to assist Pharmacy Leadership with managing equipment and systems used by the pharmacy department to manage and distribute medications.
This position also performs limited tasks including receiving daily pharmacy deliveries and supporting the inpatient pharmacy team during unplanned or planned staffing shortages.
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent is required.
Experience:
Two years of retail/hospital pharmacy experience is required.
One year of computer experience is required.
Certification/Licensure:
Licensed as a Certified Pharmacy Technician by the Virginia Department of Health Professions required.
Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) required.
Other Qualifications
  • Familiarity with commonly prescribed medications, brand/generic names, use, doses, frequencies, and dosage forms is required
  • Must have excellent computer and operational skills, interpersonal skills, and the ability to work under pressure with other healthcare professionals
  • Must be knowledgeable and serve as a resource to the pharmacy leadership team regarding medication safety, medication distribution and management to help meet compliance around medication distribution with pharmacy automation and the Joint Commission, Board of Pharmacy and DEA regulatory requirements.
  • The Pharmacy technician will learn comprehensive operational details for all Omnicell equipment and new system to be implemented that would require knowledge and understanding of the operations.
