About the Role:

The Compounding Pharmaceutical Quality Assurance professional plays a critical role in ensuring that compounded medications meet the highest standards of safety, efficacy, and regulatory compliance. This position is responsible for overseeing and implementing quality assurance protocols throughout the compounding process, from raw material inspection to final product release. The role requires meticulous attention to detail to identify and mitigate risks, ensuring that all compounded pharmaceuticals adhere to applicable guidelines and industry best practices. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with compounding pharmacists, production teams, and regulatory bodies to maintain continuous quality improvement. Ultimately, this role safeguards patient health by guaranteeing that compounded medications are consistently produced to exacting quality standards.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemistry, or a related scientific discipline.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in pharmaceutical compounding quality assurance or a closely related field.
  • In-depth knowledge of USP <795>, USP <797>, USP <800>, and FDA regulations applicable to pharmaceutical compounding.
  • Strong understanding of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and quality management systems.
  • Proven ability to conduct audits, manage documentation, and implement quality control measures.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification in Quality Assurance (e.g., ASQ Certified Quality Auditor or equivalent).
  • Experience working in a sterile compounding environment.
  • Familiarity with electronic quality management systems (eQMS) and laboratory information management systems (LIMS).
  • Advanced degree (Masterโ€™s or PharmD) in a relevant field.
  • Experience with risk assessment methodologies and root cause analysis.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain quality assurance procedures and documentation specific to pharmaceutical compounding operations.
  • Conduct regular audits and inspections of compounding processes, equipment, and facilities to ensure compliance with USP <795>, <797>, and other relevant standards.
  • Review and approve batch records, compounding formulas, and quality control test results prior to product release.
  • Investigate deviations, non-conformances, and complaints related to compounded products, and coordinate corrective and preventive actions.
  • Train and support compounding staff on quality assurance policies, regulatory requirements, and best practices to promote a culture of quality and compliance.
