Job description

Lead Investigator (Pharmaceutical Industry)

At Bristol Myers Squibb, we transform patientsโ€™ lives through science. As Lead Investigator you will drive the clinical evidence that decides whether a molecule becomes a medicine. Your work will shape protocols, protect participants, and accelerate decisions that reach people living with serious disease.

Performance Objectives
  • Design and lock high-quality protocols within 90 days of concept approval so first-patient-in occurs on or ahead of timeline.
  • Deliver complete, audit-ready data packages that enable go/no-go decisions at every stage-gate with zero critical GCP findings.
  • Reduce screen-failure and dropout rates by 15 % versus historical benchmarks through site selection, training, and real-time risk-based monitoring.
  • Lead cross-functional study teams (clinical operations, biostats, safety, regulatory) to hit all primary and secondary endpoints on time and on budget.
  • Publish or present at least two peer-reviewed outputs per year that influence treatment guidelines or next-generation trial design.
  • Mentor two emerging investigators to independent study-lead status within 18 months.

You report to the Head of Clinical Development. You will work with a dedicated study team, global CRO partners, and BMSโ€™s integrated data and digital platforms. Travel is 20โ€“25 % to sites and investigator meetings. You have authority to allocate study budget and to elevate safety or quality issues directly to the Development Leadership Team.

Essential Qualifications
  • MD, DO, or equivalent plus 7+ years of industry-sponsored clinical research, including at least three studies as primary or lead investigator.
  • Demonstrated success delivering Phase 2/3 trials in oncology, immunology, or cardiovascular disease that met or exceeded enrollment and data-quality targets.
  • Deep working knowledge of ICH-GCP, FDA/EMA regulations, and risk-based quality management.
  • Proven ability to translate scientific questions into executable protocols and to defend them with regulators and ethics committees.
  • Track record of building high-performing, geographically dispersed investigator networks.
Role Selling Points
  • Direct impact on BMSโ€™s late-stage pipelineโ€”molecules that already have Breakthrough Therapy or PRIME designations.
  • Access to proprietary digital tools that cut query rates and accelerate database lock.
  • Culture that rewards scientific courage: we publish negative as well as positive results.
  • Competitive compensation, equity, and a benefits package designed for people who put patients first.
