THE OPPORTUNITY
The Director, Competitive Intelligence & Insights - Oncology will execute competitive intelligence activities across several of Vir Bio's early-stage clinical programs and Research projects across solid tumor indications.
The role directly supports Clinical Development, Medical Affairs, Commercial, Program Management, Corporate Strategy and Business Development functions, and will require significant cross-functional collaboration and interaction with senior leadership across the organization.
The primary responsibilities include collecting and synthesizing relevant insights from external sources (leveraging modern tools including agentic AI) and presenting implications to support decision making across the organization. These activities will be driven by the need for: a) a broad understanding of the solid tumor therapeutic landscape, and b) answering key strategic questions to be defined by relevant stakeholders.
This role is based in our San Francisco California office with the expectations to be onsite 4 days a week.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • Maintain and update competitive landscape analyses and competitor profiles for Vir Bio therapeutic areas of focus and deliver accurate, timely, and actionable updates to key stakeholders
  • Communicate context, insights and objective analysis of competitive information to Program Teams and Senior Leadership throughout the organization to support clinical and program decision making, as well as corporate communications and investor relations
  • Cover major conferences, including synthesis of key abstracts, publications and presentations to provide insights on emerging scientific and clinical data
  • Collaborate with partners in Clinical Development, Medical Affairs, Commercial, Program Management, Corporate Strategy and Business Development functions to define key strategic questions and support competitive intelligence needs

WHO YOU ARE AND WHAT YOU BRING
  • Advanced degree in a scientific or engineering field and 8+ years of Competitive Intelligence, Strategy Consulting or Buy Side experience in biotech/pharma
  • Demonstrated excellence in scientific evaluation
  • Education and relevant work experience in solid tumor oncology, including expertise across biologics modalities
  • Excellent organization, planning and time management skills including the ability to support and prioritize multiple projects
  • Demonstrated communication, presentation and interpersonal skills required to present complex data to senior stakeholders
  • Collaborative and flexible in personal interactions at all levels of the company
  • Demonstrated business experience and acumen
  • Experience with LLM-guided analyses, including oversight of agentic AI-initiated analyses
  • Experience in use of online data sources and scientific/market databases (e.g., ClinicalTrials.gov, Cortellis, etc.)

WHO WE ARE AND WHAT WE OFFER
The expected salary range for this position is $195,000 to $272,000 per year. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors.
Vir Biotechnology's compensation and benefits are aligned with the current market and commensurate with the person's experience and qualifications.
