What is a Phage Display job?

A Phage Display job typically involves working with bacteriophage-based techniques to screen peptides, proteins, or antibodies for binding to specific targets. Scientists in this field use phage libraries to identify high-affinity binders for drug discovery, diagnostics, or therapeutic development. Responsibilities may include library construction, screening, sequencing, and data analysis. The role is often found in biotech or pharmaceutical companies, as well as academic research labs.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Phage Display position, and why are they important?

To thrive in a Phage Display role, you need a solid background in molecular biology, protein engineering, and laboratory techniques, often supported by a degree in biology, biochemistry, or a related field. Familiarity with tools such as PCR, ELISA, DNA sequencing, and bioinformatics software is typically required, and experience with phage libraries or related certifications can be advantageous. Strong analytical thinking, meticulous attention to detail, and effective teamwork and communication skills help candidates excel in this position. These competencies are vital for designing experiments, troubleshooting complex protocols, and collaborating on scientific research projects.

What are some typical day-to-day responsibilities for someone working in Phage Display?

Professionals in Phage Display spend much of their day designing, conducting, and troubleshooting experiments involving the selection and screening of phage-displayed peptide or antibody libraries. This often includes molecular cloning, bacterial culture, protein expression and purification, and data analysis. Collaboration with multidisciplinary teams—such as bioinformaticians, chemists, and project managers—is common, as is documenting results and preparing reports or presentations. The role may also involve adapting protocols for new targets, contributing to scientific publications, and maintaining meticulous laboratory records.

Job description

Client uses a combination of novel, cutting edge methods in machine learning, biology at scale and next gen antibody discovery that address key bottlenecks in the drug development pipeline. To accomplish that, we are putting together an incredible team of discovery biologists, computational scientists, and protein scientists who want to make a difference to this important problem. We are seeking a Senior Research Associate -Associate Scientist, Antibody Screening and Display to join our Antibody Screening team. This role will report to the Sr

Scientist heading antibody screening and display, with accountability for supporting mammalian cell culture, high-throughput flow cytometry, and transient transfections. Key Responsibilities: Execute high-throughput small-scale protein expression and flow cytometry workflows to characterize antibody samples. Support antibody screening programs by expressing antibodies in mammalian cells in high-throughput, thenstaining cell surface markers with high-throughput flow cytometry.

Analyze, interpret, and present expression and flow data to inform antibody selection and optimization decisions. Independently troubleshoot and optimize experimental protocols for improved throughput, accuracy, and reproducibility. Maintain meticulous experimental records in electronic lab notebooks and effectively communicate findings in internal meetings.

Qualifications: B.S in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or related life science field with 5+ years of experience, or M.S. with 3+ years of relevant experience. 3+ years hands-on experience with flow cytometry is required

Proficient in mammalian cell culture of adherent and suspension immortalized cell lines, Expi293, HEK293T. Proficient in transient transfections of immortalized cell lines. Ideal candidates will have prior experience supporting high-throughput antibody discovery workflows with an end goal of identifying novel therapeutic candidates.

Strong organizational and time management skills to contribute to multiple projects in a fast-paced environment. Experience with electronic lab notebooks (Benchling). Excellent communication skills and ability to document and present experimental results.

Nice-To-Haves: Experience with automation platforms (liquid handlers) is a strong plus. Experience with Illumina Next-Generation Sequencing, or 10X sequencing is a strong-plus. Experience with high-throughput protein purification, Cytiva AKTA, Agilent HPLC, Octet BLI, and/or Carterra SPR is a plus.

Experience with display workflows in mammalian cells, yeast, or phage is a plus.
