Team and Job Overview
The Tournament Director serves as the senior executive leader of the OneFlight Myrtle Beach Classic and is responsible for the overall strategic direction, operational execution, financial performance, and stakeholder management of the event. This role oversees all aspects of tournament operations and revenue generation while maintaining strong relationships with the PGA TOUR, title sponsor, host venue, community partners, and key stakeholders.
The Tournament Director will lead and develop the local tournament staff, coordinate with SPORTFIVE support teams, manage the event's financial performance, and ensure the continued growth and long-term success of the tournament.
Essential Job Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Management
  • Lead, mentor, and manage the full-time local tournament staff responsible for the year-round planning and execution of the event.
  • Direct and coordinate SPORTFIVE support personnel and shared-service resources involved in tournament planning and execution.
  • Establish organizational goals, performance expectations, and accountability measures across all functional areas.
  • Foster a collaborative, high-performance culture that emphasizes professionalism, innovation, communication, and exceptional stakeholder service.

Tournament Operations Oversight
  • Lead the overall operations strategy for the tournament in partnership with the Tournament Operations Manager or Director and SPORTFIVE support staff.
  • Lead operational coordination with the PGA TOUR, tournament vendors, event partners, and local authorities.
  • Oversee tournament competition operations to ensure compliance with PGA TOUR standards and requirements.
  • Direct all aspects of tournament infrastructure planning and execution, including temporary facilities, hospitality venues, sponsor activations, fan experiences, parking, transportation, and logistics.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with PGA TOUR competition, business affairs, and operational teams.
  • Ensure all event operations are executed safely, efficiently, and at the highest professional standards.

Financial & Budget Management
  • Maintain ownership and oversight of the tournament Profit & Loss statement, including budget planning, forecasting, and financial reporting.
  • Develop annual operating budgets and monitor financial performance against approved targets.
  • Identify opportunities to improve operating efficiencies while maintaining exceptional event quality.
  • Ensure responsible stewardship of tournament assets, vendor relationships, and contractual obligations.
  • Work closely with SPORTFIVE leadership to achieve financial goals and long-term business objectives.

Sales & Revenue Leadership
  • Lead the overall revenue strategy for the tournament in partnership with the Tournament Sales Manager and SPORTFIVE commercial leadership.
  • Lead the development and execution of sponsorship sales initiatives, hospitality programs, and revenue-generating activities.
  • Serve as a senior relationship executive for existing and prospective corporate partners.
  • Monitor sales pipeline activity and ensure achievement of annual revenue goals.
  • Identify new business opportunities and innovative approaches to enhance tournament profitability and market presence.

Host Club Relationship Management
  • Serve as the primary relationship manager for The Dunes Golf & Beach Club.
  • Maintain a healthy, collaborative, and mutually beneficial partnership with club leadership, membership, and operations teams.
  • Ensure transparent, proactive, and professional communication regarding tournament planning, execution, and post-event evaluation.
  • Address operational concerns and opportunities in a timely manner while balancing the interests of the tournament and host club.
  • Foster long-term alignment that supports continued tournament success and an exceptional experience for club stakeholders.

Title Sponsor Relationship Management
  • Serve as a primary day-to-day leader in managing the relationship with the tournament's title sponsors, OneFlight and Visit Myrtle Beach.
  • Ensure all contractual sponsorship benefits are delivered at the highest standard.
  • Collaborate with sponsor leadership to maximize business objectives, brand exposure, hospitality experiences, and activation opportunities.
  • Maintain regular communication with sponsor stakeholders regarding planning milestones, event updates, and strategic initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance sponsor engagement and strengthen the long-term partnership.
  • Support renewal efforts and contribute to the overall success and value proposition of the sponsorship partnership.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience in sports management, business, marketing, event management, or a related field.
  • Minimum 7-10 years of experience in sports, event management, tournament operations, sponsorship sales, or related leadership roles; Experience working within professional golf strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated success managing large-scale sporting events and cross-functional teams.
  • Strong financial acumen with experience managing budgets, forecasts, and P&L responsibility.
  • Experience working with sponsors, corporate partners, venues, and governing bodies.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, negotiation, and relationship management skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and effectively manage multiple priorities.
  • Must be able to work evenings, weekends, and extended hours as required during tournament operations.
