What does a pet groomer part time do?

A Pet Groomer Part Time is responsible for bathing, trimming, and styling pets, primarily dogs and cats, on a part-time schedule. Their duties include cleaning ears, clipping nails, brushing coats, and sometimes identifying health issues that may require a vet's attention. They also interact with pet owners to discuss grooming preferences and ensure pets are comfortable and safe throughout the grooming process. Part-time groomers may work in pet salons, veterinary clinics, or mobile grooming services.

What are some common challenges faced by part-time pet groomers, and how are they typically addressed?

Part-time pet groomers often encounter challenges such as managing a diverse range of animal temperaments, handling anxious or aggressive pets, and maintaining a consistent workflow during peak hours. These challenges are typically addressed through training in animal behavior, effective time management, and collaboration with other groomers and support staff. Additionally, part-time groomers are encouraged to communicate clearly with pet owners to understand each animal’s needs and to ensure a positive grooming experience for both the pet and the client.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a pet groomer part time, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Pet Groomer Part Time, you need hands-on grooming skills, knowledge of animal breeds, and a high school diploma or equivalent, with some employers preferring formal grooming training or certification. Familiarity with grooming tools (clippers, shears, dryers), pet-safe products, and scheduling software is typically required. Patience, attention to detail, and strong customer service skills help groomers provide a positive experience for both pets and their owners. These capabilities ensure pets are groomed safely and stylishly while building client trust and supporting repeat business.

  • Rebook and maintain your client base professionally

Cleanliness & Professional Standards

  • Maintain a sanitized grooming space at all times
  • Sweep hair promptly and clean bathing/drying areas daily
  • Disinfect drying rooms daily and deep disinfect weekly
  • Properly label and identify all pets in your care
  • Communicate clearly with pet care staff regarding pet location and timing

What We're Looking For

We are seeking a groomer who is:

  • Experienced and technically skilled
  • Calm, patient, and safety-focused
  • Strong in written and verbal communication
  • Detail-oriented and organized
  • Professional and reliable
  • Comfortable working in a team-based resort environment

You must be able to:
