Job Description
DeAngelo Contracting Services (DCS) is looking for a motivated and skilled Hi-Rail Technician with a positive attitude, strong ethics, mechanical expertise, and a strong focus on safety. This position involves spraying herbicide across various railroads and managing the maintenance and operation of trucks and equipment.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Supervise and manage all jobs/contracts assigned.
  • Apply herbicides for weed, grass, and brush control across different railroad locations.
  • Handle daily routing and scheduling tasks.
  • Perform daily tank mixing of chemicals.
  • Conduct truck inspections and manage the maintenance and repairs of the truck and spray system.
  • Calibrate all spray equipment.
  • Ensure all work is carried out in adherence to strict safety protocols.
  • Maintain daily and weekly records.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact with customers.
  • Address customer and public complaints professionally.
  • Report any potential liabilities immediately.
  • Possess a thorough understanding of various weed, grass, and brush species.
  • Have in-depth knowledge of the chemicals used, including what they control and their safety requirements.
  • Fully understand application methods, equipment, calibration, and spray patterns.

Qualifications
EDUCATION:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.

EXPERIENCE:
  • Must be 21+ years of age.
  • A valid state drivers license with at least 5 years of clean driving history.
  • Willingness to travel away from home for up to 4-6 weeks at a time (hotel expenses covered by DCS).
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug test, DOT physical, and background check to work on railroad property.
  • Commercial Pesticide Applicator License is preferred.
  • Standard work schedule is Monday through Friday, 7 AM to 4 PM, with shifts typically ranging from 10 to 12 hours.
  • Some weekend or night work may be required.
  • Occasional travel to offices during breaks for truck/equipment maintenance.
  • Work hours may vary based on weather conditions and workload.
  • Spraying is a seasonal task, aligned with the regional office schedule.
  • Must adhere to the company's drug and alcohol policy.

TRAINING: DeAngelo Contracting Services offers paid training to help employees succeed in their roles. Training areas include:
  • Identifying various weeds, grass, and brush species.
  • Understanding which chemicals control specific plant species.
  • Safely operating application equipment.
  • Learning different field application methods.
  • Understanding how to properly maintain equipment.
