What is a personal trainer intern?

Personal trainer interns are individuals who are gaining practical experience in the fitness industry under the supervision of certified personal trainers. They assist with workout sessions, learn how to create exercise programs, and observe client interactions to develop their skills. Interns may also help with administrative tasks, equipment setup, and maintaining gym cleanliness. This role is typically part of a pathway toward becoming a certified personal trainer.

What responsibilities does a personal trainer intern have?

As a Personal Trainer Intern, you'll typically support certified trainers by helping to set up equipment, demonstrate exercises, and observe training sessions. You may also assist with fitness assessments, track client progress, and maintain a clean, safe workout environment. While direct client interaction varies by facility, interns often get opportunities to shadow sessions, answer client questions, and eventually lead warm-ups or basic routines under supervision.
