JOB SUMMARY

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Green Bean Harvester Mechanic to join our agricultural team. The Green Bean Harvester Mechanic will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a variety of farm equipment, vehicles, and machinery with emphasis on our green bean harvesting equipment. This role requires a strong understanding of mechanical systems, excellent problem-solving skills, and a commitment to ensuring the smooth operation of farm operations. The ideal candidate will have a broad range of mechanical knowledge and experience in agricultural equipment.

Requirements:

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues in farm/harvest equipment, vehicles, and machinery.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks, including oil changes, filter replacements, and inspections, to ensure optimal performance and longevity of equipment.
  • Repair or replace faulty components, such as engines, transmissions, brakes, hydraulics, and electrical systems, following manufacturer's guidelines and specifications.
  • Utilize diagnostic tools and equipment to identify and resolve equipment malfunctions.
  • Keep accurate records of repairs, maintenance activities, and parts inventory.
  • Coordinate and communicate with farm managers and supervisors to prioritize repairs and minimize equipment downtime.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workshop and equipment storage area.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines at all times to prevent accidents and injuries.
  • Stay up to date with advancements in farm equipment technology and industry best practices through training and professional development opportunities.
  • Assist in the evaluation and selection of new equipment and machinery for farm operations.
  • Provide guidance and support to other team members regarding equipment operation, maintenance, and safety.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent. Technical or trade school education in mechanical systems is a plus.
  • Proven experience as a farm mechanic or in a similar role, with a strong understanding of agricultural equipment and machinery.
  • Solid knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and diesel systems.
  • Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing a variety of farm equipment, vehicles, and machinery.
  • Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals, schematics, and technical drawings.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure to resolve equipment issues quickly and efficiently.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work accurately in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to work well within a team.
  • Physical stamina and the ability to lift heavy objects and work in various weather conditions.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Flexibility to work extended hours, weekends, and holidays during peak seasons.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Work is performed both indoors in a maintenance shop and outdoors in farm fields, often around heavy machinery and moving equipment.
  • Regular exposure to varying weather conditions including heat, humidity, rain, wind, and cold.
  • Frequent exposure to loud equipment, engines, and harvesting machinery; hearing protection may be required.
  • Work may involve exposure to dirt, mud, dust, grease, oil, and other agricultural residues.
  • Work schedules may include early mornings, late evenings, weekends, and holidays, particularly during planting and harvesting seasons.
  • May require travel between farm locations to perform on-site repairs.
  • Frequent use of hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, diagnostic devices, and heavy equipment.
  • Repairs may need to be completed quickly to minimize equipment downtime during harvest operations.
  • Requires strict adherence to safety procedures and use of personal protective equipment (PPE).


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50–75+ lbs regularly
  • Prolonged periods of standing, walking, bending, and moving around fields or shop areas.
  • Ability to climb onto and off large machinery, ladders, and platforms; frequent reaching above shoulders and below waist.
  • Regular kneeling, squatting, and crawling under equipment to diagnose and repair machinery.
  • Strong hand–eye coordination and ability to work with small parts, tools, and diagnostic instruments.
  • Clear vision for inspecting equipment parts and identifying issues; ability to hear machinery sounds and alarms.
  • Must be able to work long hours in physically demanding conditions, including heat and uneven terrain.
  • Ability to safely operate and maneuver farm machinery, service trucks, and motor vehicles.
