Job description

BPR Consulting Group (www.bpr-grp.com) is seeking a Permit Technician to join our growing company and serve our clients.

The successful candidate will work with the public and provide information regarding permits and building code requirements. Good people skills is mandatory and the ability to use tact and good judgement. Under general supervision, the Permit Technician will perform technical tasks, provide customer service and clerical work supporting the operations involved in permit issuance.

Essential Duties:

The essential duties noted below are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, functions, and skills. They are intended to be a summary of key job responsibilities and duties.

  1. Efficiently process building permit applications and miscellaneous permits; ensure all necessary approvals are obtained.
  2. Respond to inquiries and confer with builders, engineers, contractors, architects and the public concerning submittal requirements, building codes and permit regulations at the counter and over the phone.
  3. Assemble, route and monitor plans and associated information through various City Department and agencies for the plan review process and permit issuance.
  4. Calculate various valuations, plan check fees and permit fees.
  5. Perform related duties as assigned.

Desired Qualifications:

Knowledge of City government, procedures and operating details of building departments, building terms and codes, construction practices and materials beneficial. Experience in customer service and clerical / administrative functions desired.

Certifications / Experience:

  • ICC Permit Technician certificate required
  • One year of work experience as a Permit Technician in a public agency desired
  • Related administrative support experience in a public sector building department, planning or public works department is a plus
  • Must be computer literate

Pay Range is $24 - $36 an hour
