Permit Specialist
Pay Range: $22-25/hr
Location: Overland Park, KS
Summary:
The focus of the role will be completing Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) permit application for city, county, state, pole, railroad, and others. This position will help to oversee and mentor more junior permit specialist on the team.
Job Duties:
- Establish and sustain positive working relationships with jurisdictions, acting as the client's main point of contact
- Perform jurisdictional and utility research, address municipal code and document requirements for other team members in tips and tricks file.
- Effective knowledge and professional communication of the current permit status in emails and on calls.
- Maintain research documentation for jurisdictions in the company's database of record.
- Compile, submit and retrieve permit packages either electronically or in person.
- Travel to and effectively interact with the permitting authority to ensure timely receipt of approved permits.
- Maintain engagement throughout the entire project cycle - start to successful completion.
- Ensure all deliverables (prints and permits) are received and uploaded into the designated company database of record and our file system to keep a full and accurate record of permits.
- Deliver accurate and complete permit packages (including permit, approved plan set and Traffic control) to customer, data storage or permit repository.
- Using the company's database of record, track the permit lifecycle from application to approval, expiration and renewal.
- Submit and track power applications for any powered cabinet or Hut as required.
- Maintain Accurate data within the database and on trackers
- Be available and able to fill in for your teammates in any market
- Maintain and track Permitting deliverables within your market as well as reviewing all markets for due dates and deliverables.
- Maintain accurate forecasts working with PM's, actual timelines, and costs in our database of record.
- Compile, submit and retrieve more difficult and multiple jurisdiction permits.
- Submit and track Aerial applications including joint use and Make Ready notifications as needed.
- Keep market tips and tricks updated. Enlist assistance from your permitting teammates for other markets.
- Additional activities related to jurisdictional requirements, permit tracking and reporting.
- Training of new team members as needed.
- Ability to move between all markets seamlessly to assist in covering vacations and fill in.
- Begin to act as subject matter expert in areas you have been trained in or experience you have.
- Practice speaking up on calls and providing accurate and concise clear information.
Requirements:
- 1-4 years of Permitting experience completing Authority Having Jurisdiction permit applications.
- Previous telecommunication or utility permitting experience
- Experience leading and mentoring more junior permit team members
- Valid driver's license & transportation
Preferred:
- Aerial permitting experience
